The team behind this were instrumental in working with the locals, Planning Commission and City Council in updating the University Neighborhood Overlay. To think, most of this area had a 40’ height limit put on it when “all things NIMBY” dominated City Hall. While we’re slowly getting out of our own way, we still have a 36 year old land use code over most of Austin. Keep voting for the pro-housing folks, y’all!

In addition to being the tallest building in WC, it will have the tallest crane at 500'.

This may be U/C now. The tower crane is scheduled to go up the weekend of 8/21-8/23. This is the same weekend the Avenue Hyatt Centric crane goes up.

FAA permit for the crane - 500 feet. I know you mentioned before it would be that tall, but this permit was posted yesterday.

I recall the chatter on this forum back when Frost Tower broke ground as being the first 500+ footer to break in the US since the dot-com bust. Might this beauty be the first 300+ footer in the country to break once the pandemic swept in?

There's a number of 300 ft'+ high-rises across the U.S that began construction before this one during the pandemic.

Could you name one? I think of towers such as the Hyatt Centric but it was underway before April. My guess is there has been another that started, but I don't know of one.

I would imagine there have been. I would be very surprised if there hadn't been any that did.
