it works for me too but i wouldn't have bothered if it had been identified (having already read the article).

my point was that the post could have related to the burrow, it could have related to the elm street café, it could have related to entrepreneurs, it could have related to triangular all glass architectural spaces per the immediately preceding post...

the link doesn't need editing but a simple "journal article on the burrow" or " on the elm street cafe" or " on nate box" or " on entrepreneurs" or "on red brick's triangular all glass architecture for the quarters" would have done.

I dont think we suggested boycotting, but expressing discontent.

Major City Centre Mall redevelopment to commence in 2015
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/...456/story.html

Quote:
EDMONTON - Twelve years ago, Edmonton City Centre gave the downtown a splash of colour by painting its grey walls with shades of yellow and burgundy.

Now, the shopping centre’s exterior is going eye-catching white, the initial phase of what is touted as a major redevelopment.

“When we redeveloped back in 2002, we painted the building that yellow and burgundy colour just to stand out from the ordinary buildings that were downtown at the time,” said Greg Burns, the mall’s marketing director.

“That was 12 years ago now, so now we’re looking at freshening the building up again.” The white shade was chosen after consultation with a focus group.

“It pops the building a bit. It helps emphasize some of the structural features and gives it a clean fresh look,” said Burns.

City Centre owner Oxford Properties Group Inc. is planning a major redevelopment of the shopping centre in 2015, but no details are being released yet.

“We know we’re going to redevelop. We’re just in the planning stages of that right now, but while that’s going on we thought we’d freshen up the building with the warmer weather,” said Burns.

The shopping centre is also partnering with Cineplex to install interactive digital directories and video walls in the fall.

Hmm, so with the LRT running right in front, hopefully more retail open to the street with mandatory doors that are left open according to the leases while the stores are open. How big will the sidewalk bee? Big enough for patios?

The Drawing Room Gallery & Studio and Barber Ha are opening up in the 'Orient Travel' Building just south of the old City Market Building on 97 Ave and 102A. The building was purchased last year by Gene Dub. They'll be doing renos this summer, will include a small coffee shop and patio.

Great to see more action happening on 97 Street. It has potential to become a decent street if all falls into place.

I heard Barber Ha was looking at doing an downtown/chinatown location. Glad this is moving forward.

Edmonton Retail

We'll be making some exciting retail-related announcements about Edmonton in the coming weeks. We've actually relocated here, at least briefly, to work on a couple of projects.

Good news - Edmonton will be seeing substantially more upscale shopping options by 2017.

Now that the AED is finally a going concern, here is my wish-list for new/replacement downtown retailers (anywhere downtown, not just AED):

- flagship Hudson's Bay (current downtown location is too small)
- Saks
- Nordstrom
- Simons
- lululemon (still popular despite corporate snafus)
- Apple
- London Drugs
- H&M
- Harry Rosen
- Lacoste (or similar higher-end clothing stores)
- American Eagle or Aeropostale (popular with teens and early 20s)
- Home Hardware or Home Depot (urban format obviously)
- Chapters/Indigo (to replace the tiny and cramped Coles in ECC)
- grocery (replacement for Sobeys)

You won get a department store there.

Most of your list will be more likely to go into ECC to be frank, but expect to see a bunch of retail and restaurant options we don't currently have here.

I agree, the EAD is small (215,000 square feet) and is labeled as boutique as per their website. I would expect smaller high end clothing stores and restaurants with new names to our market.

^ and ^^ that's why I'm saying anywhere downtown, not just AED. I expect the arena district to jumpstart downtown retail in general.

Lets not forget that as it stand the amount of retail proposed is 'flexible' and not cast in stone. If Katz/WAM have the potential to lure a large anchor and need to increase the amount of retail space, they can do so. So I would say that any type of tenant is possible at this time.

Interesting article on why Holts may have closed its Ottawa store - or what may have contributed to the closure. Is Edmonton similar?
