Still is, and will always be, an unbelievably bone-headed decision to get rid of the tax credit, since it would have help Saskatchewan greatly.

Apparently the kilns in Stonewall will require $1.2 million in repairs to be saved.

Good question. I'm not sure how extensive the repairs will be. It's not like the kilns are huge monoliths.

For that much money they should be full on remediation of the kilns. Like fixing all the cracks, etc, etc. Not sure what kind of foundations are underneath. Probably just blocks of limestone. Anyways, I would expect extensive renovations to the point where they're basically new.

Is there a report somewhere for this? Looking at the town website and AF Eshmade did a report on it. There was also a meeting last night on the issue.

Weyburn council rejects home for people with disabilities, citing 'stigma' and property values

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but what a shameful and abhorrent example of NIMBYISM. I encourage anyone who wants to give feedback on this to send it to the Weyburn city councillor who spearheaded this move: bwheeler@weyburn.ca.

Make sure you stomp that out right away, Doug Ford made nearly identical statements about a home for Autistic youth and look at what he's doing now.

Looking at the website for the Creeks, and right now it's all side by sides. There's no single family, million dollar homes. As was mentioned in that news article. Maybe in future phases. Either way, ridiculous. What a bunch of assholes.

Just came across on my Twitter.

Sounds like they're rethinking the ban in Weyburn.

The yellow-vest movement has been pretty strong around Regina lately, so I'm holding out hope... Been pretty embarrassed to be from Saskatchewan for awhile now. This is what happens when right-wing populism takes over your province. Best of luck to our neighbours to the east.

News flash. Burton Cummings lives in Moose Jaw? There has to be a story here.

I will see if I can find anything. Nothing that I am aware of at the moment though.

Moved the union talk over here from the Winnipeg retail thread.

Why would professions like doctors and pharmacists want to be unionized? It sort of loops back to unions not always being about wages. Often it is things like working conditions and internal promotions. For example, all large hospitals have in house pharmacists. Staffed hours included evenings, weekends and every stat holiday. How the schedule is set would be something a union contract would directly address.

Doctors I know that are unionized are better known as "medical examiners". How "on call" status works, and how it is rotated between staff would be a concern. They would also likely be looking for something on if the employer supplies a vehicle for their use while on duty or alternatively how mileage is being paid.

Without a union contract in place those things are either open to negotiation each time they come up or a left to the whim of some manager.

Flip side. Why should an employer be forced to allow a union to move in?
