I always thought it was a bit of a downer that these three towers were surrounded by parking, with no real streetscape to speak of.

I think it could be argued that the bridge was a pretty big waste of taxpayer money.

Yes, it is pretty, but other than that it wasn't really required, and I think the money could be put to better use. According to Wikipedia, the cost of the bridge was $72 million, which adjusted for 2019 dollars is $100million. This is, IIRC, about half of Winnipeg Transit's budget for a year.

My biggest complaint is that it is literally right beside an existing bridge which has a large sidewalk, https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/49.89...a1645a!1m0!3e2

So what was the real benefit of the bridge then? It maybe makes walking to Saint Boniface from the forks about 90 seconds shorter, and it is very pretty. But I would think there are more useful things that can be done for $100million.

72 million would have included the vehicular bridge too. I don’t believe the pedestrain span was more than 25 million.

Ah okay I stand corrected and retract my statement then.

As dense as Osborne Village is, there's actually a tonne of clustered surface parking. The Evergreen Tower parking, Safeway, the River-Wellington area apartments, much of east Roslyn, and pretty much the whole east side of Osborne from River down to Confusion Corner. It goes to show that urbanist neighbourhoods and surface parking can co-exist, depending on how it's done.

It's nice to see that slowly but surely more glass is creeping in to our skyline, as opposed to concrete and Tyndall stone - not that there is anything wrong with that, but in my opinion our skyline is overwhelmingly grey and beige and could use some blues and greens.

I don't disagree with you per se but I do like that we don't just have an endless sea of glass buildings like Vancouver. I actually think some of the best new facades aren't glass at all but are made of different materials like the super skinny tower going in in front of Central Park in New York (forget the name)

Totally agree. The reclad of the commodity exchange tower makes a massive difference because it's wide, tall, and visible in most skyline shots. And based on renderings our new tallest will be quite glassy as well:

I think the glass-clad crown/mechanical area will look fantastic and refreshing in our skyline.
