Awesome updates. I think it's great that we are finally getting a bit more variation in the scale of the infill happening around town.

Tyler Perry reveals development plans for more Fort Mac land

https://saportareport.com/tyler-perr...oyner/allison/
Quote:
Movie mogul Tyler Perry Monday evening unveiled his plans to turn an additional 37 acres of Fort Mac land into an entertainment and residential district.

The new entertainment and residential district will be accessible to the public. Perry intends to offer public tours of the studio, which is under tight security and is fenced off from the community.

The development would be adjacent to the 120 acres Bishop T.D. Jakes is buying from MILRA for a similar development. Perry told the community that he has spoken with Jakes, and they have agreed to work together to have their developments be conducive to the community’s needs

TP should give a few feet of the land along Campbellton back to the city so when they build the transit route, the section along Ft. Mac can be on dedicated right of way instead stuck in shared traffic. Honestly a shame the city didn’t originally hold onto that.

Campanile

Looks like Dewberry has refinanced the loan for the project.

The rendering from the article looks completely different from what they presented to the DRC.

Well, that's a huge step backwards in design, but at least it has a facade

Uh oh. The Cousins 8th and West Peachtree office tower has reduced the height and square footage. The "Midtown Plateau" will continue...

Well the initial announcement for the Cousins building was 30 stories and 450k-500k sqft, so its been cut back a bit, but not much. Hopefully the 26 stories are on top of the 9 stories for parking. With the credit union tower going up around the corner it will be interesting to see which one finishes first and which one is taller. Considering the Cousins tower has been in the works for 3 years now.

Campanile

I still prefer the lost “Campanile” feature that was part of the original 1980s building design. For those who don’t remember, the building was topped with an elongated pyramidal atrium of sorts that almost ran the length of the building's roof-top. They basically erased this Post-Modern signature feature of the building. It’s what made that particular building unique. That said, the proposed street level redesign is still appealing, given the fact that the original tower needed some improvements in that area anyway.

Unless the design is inherently flawed or too costly to maintain, I’m not a fan of altering all of our skyscrapers to keep up with the passing architectural trends. These buildings tend to represent a slice of time or period of design that relates to the culture that was present at the time - it gives us a cultural "mile marker" reference in time. Yeah, I know, the Campanile building wasn't designed by a Philip Johnson, but it's still (was) a notable part of the Post-Modern era in Atlanta.

Where would all of our most notable skyscrapers be today if we followed each and every re-design impulse. Would we be upset if One Atlantic Center (IBM Tower) were stripped of its Gothic features or if a developer added 1980s marble cladding to Mies Van Der Rohe's 1950s International style Seagrams building in New York. We could also include all the great Art Deco buildings throughout the country.

Even though Colony Square’s revamp was an attempt to “breathe new life” into the space, the Modernist style of the towers was still retained, and hints of that philosophy were still apparent in the re-design.

Cousins 887 West Peachtree

Didn't someone else indicate that Cousins changed/altered or "Watered-Down" the over-all design and size of the 887 West Peachtree project as well? I think they even had a link to a revised rendering where the angular roof feature was eliminated.

Ahhh, - Even worse.

The new 887 West Peachtree Cousins proposal just looks like a copy from Portman's Anthem building template. What a waste of a prominent building site.

I agree that the original design Campanile design was better. I suspect that the rendering above is just an outdated concept since it appears to include the six stories Dewberry wanted to add to the top of the building, not to mention some never gonna happen residential (at least by Dewberry).

RE: 887 West Peachtree
The project seems like a waste of a prime site with 9 levels of parking, it's basically a 17 story office building.

Developers are taking the “square” from Tech Square too literally. Much of Atlanta’s designs in this area have been mundane boxes. It’ll look clean, sure, but sure is squatting and stale in what should be the liveliest area of the city (based upon current population).

We need a view from the east looking west and from the north looking south.
