Don't feel too bad -- that pic was taken 2 decades after I was born!

I was in Austin, going to UT at the time, living on campus. I don't even remember hearing about it; as a student living on campus, my world was entirely within the borders of I35, MLK, West Campus and Hyde Park.

I was 11 and was on the last week or so of my 55th grade year. We got on a school bus, went down to the capitol to go see her. Was pretty awesome.

I was tending bar at the Four Seasons. They made us study etiquette, what to do, say, not say if we interacted with her. Workers showed up a week before her stay to remake her room prior to her arrival. It was a pretty big deal at the time.

Here's a somewhat recent Statesman post about her visit:

I saw the plane in person; even rode on one (operated by Braniff between Dulles Int'l. and Dallas, subsonic). It wasn't a particularly impressive or comfortable plane. It was small-ish, VERY loud, and very cramped in the passenger cabin.

The planned BA equipment change from the B772ER to the B789 on February 1, 2016 may not be permanent. It seems the 4-class B772ER will return to daily service from March 27-July 30 - at least for now.

British Airways Boeing 787-9 North America Operation Changes as of 18JAN16

It's a stunning picture and I can imagine how weird it is to think of that! I'd love to see pics from around where I grew up, in the month when I was born. Were you born in Austin or did you "get here as fast as you could"?

If I hadn't seen your comment I wouldn't have noticed the date of the photo. When I first saw it I was amazed that there was a view of the Capitol without any new skyscrapers in it, like it was a very carefully zoomed CVC. Doh! Now that I see it again, it's so obviously much wider a view than what I was imagining.

Yeah I was born here in Austin, which is about 70% of why it's so weird to me.

Higher demand during that time warrants a larger (at least slightly) plane. It will be interesting to observe equipment changes as this route grows. Heck, year-over-year passenger numbers through November were up 29.5% over the same timeframe in 2014!

Might we see the B789 phased out in favor of the B772ER during "slower" months and the B773 during "busier" months in the next round?

Then maybe the B773/B744? And after that phase, maybe the B744/A388?

Okay, okay...I know. I'm getting way ahead of myself. But, man, it is exciting to imagine those scenarios at Bergstrom.

Please please please let one of these 9 gates allow for a direct route to IND. It would make my days much more productive.

This is not technically "new." It is the re-establishment of a seasonal service for the summer months.

In any case...more service is good service (makes for more PAX).

I guess I am just not with it but if I may ask...."what in the hell is a Blac Chyna?"...I do have a follow up statement. The shoes in the photo are damn ugly and I guess I too, would drink heavily if I had to wear them. I'm just sayin'

I had to educate a few of the people commenting on there that yes indeed Austin has a daily direct flight to London lol. I had some free time so figured what the hell.

I'll say this much about her... She must be cheap if she decided to take Delta to transfer to British Airways here when she could have just taken British Airways from L.A. to London lmao

And Delta does not partner with BA. Maybe she was drunk when she made her travel plans?

Maybe she was already so drunk that BA wouldn't let her board at LAX.

I saw your comments. You interrupted a several thousand posts stream of nonsense to talk about ABIA/Austin.
