I was in the Garneau area this afternoon, so I decided to try the much-hyped Farrow Sandwiches. I walked in and my ears were assaulted by loud hardcore punk, my nose was hit by an iffy cooking smell, all 3 seats in the tiny claustrophobic space were in the process of being occupied by one couple and their kid, a menu consisting just 2 sandwich choices was chalked above, and 3 cooler-than-thou bearded hipsters worked away behind the counter and taking no notice of me. After about a couple of minutes, I left and made my way to the U of A campus and finally decided to try Rodeo Burgers. Had a double Rodeo Burger combo - the burger was delicious, the fries were good, and I didn't walk out with that greasy belly feeling afterwards. All they are missing are milkshakes, plus someone should take the time to wipe the tables. For a mid-afternoon coffee, stopped by Credo on 124 St, which was busy. This is a bigger and swankier setup than the 104 St location, plus they are open Sundays. It could use a tad more seating though.

Sad for some friends, but so average. 199x needed to die.

Why compete with yourself when the Moosehead is 2 blocks away. We like the affordability of the Moosehead and the beef...hard o go wrong with AAA beef that is well aged.

A new Bistro / retail operation is opening up in Mothers Market at the end of January early Feb.
The Chef from Privada in St Albert is opening it up. Primarily will be selling cured meats and pasta. But will have a sit down eat in space as well.

This Chef is very good and his Charcuterie is probably the best in the Edmonton region.

I like that stuff but still have trouble with considering this some sort of cullinary skill. I know people with no formal cullinary skill who prepare their own meats better than any chef can

Never been a huge Sawmill fan, but the inlaws love it. But the last time we took them to the one in Capilano it was very disapointing.. my rare steak was medium well, potatoes were underseasoned and in general it was not a great experience. Likely the last time we'll go back unless the inlaws insist

^ The dinner fare at Sawmill Capilano isn't great, but their Sunday brunch buffet is excellent.

Sawmill on Calgary Trail was the first restaurant I ever went to in Edmonton. But I've never been back.

We did lunch there a fair amount when I was with JCI and our office was just off 50th street... lunch fare seemed okay, but yes the dinners have been consistently disappointing

I don't really understand the charcuterie trend myself.

Meh.. it's still just meat on a plate.

But we had some spectacular local smoked and cured meats from Smokin' Iron over the holidays. Thank god that only happens once a year

^sure, but a variety of delicious meats paired with a variety of olives, mustards, cheeses and breads is all I need. Places that know how to do this right are awesome. Many places through odd combinations and choices onto a platter and call it a day.

But Jack's is up there and I won't be regularly going north for a few more weeks... thankfully.

Will keep it on the list to try and get to though, thanks.
