The Haida, during today's "wintry" weather (we still haven't seen a big snowstorm in Hamilton this winter! and basically zero snow accumulation in many parts of town)

The house that burned down at the bottom of my block is still an empty lot, and the council housing adjacent still has melted walls and no roof lol

Love the yellow shoes on the line. They're nice sneakers! I'd wear those and can't believe someone tossed them lol

The moon is out tonight.

Looking from the clifftop ledge of the residential downtown over the commercial downtown below.

Sebastian Court is my fave council housing in the city. It's right next to City Hall.

The Majestic Theatre.

This used to be Zapatas, which unfortunately closed, but a completely unrelated, also Mexican restaurant opened in exactly the same spot lol

One of my two superettes (the other one I usually photograph is the same short walk away, but uphill).

In this neighbourhood, the pictures of who's barred are quite extensive lol

Up in Tessier Park. That central burgundy house is jeddy1989's place, so took a bunch to send him the view while he's wintering in Lisbon.

The City made decks on your neighbour's roof illegal years ago, but hundreds were grandfathered in. I've always wondered what that dynamic is like... if I owned the chartreuse house centered, I'd want to build my own deck on my own roof... but someone already owns it?

Funny aside, my grandparents only ever said "Kayd Fall-chuh". So they skipped entirely the "mile" word in the middle on Mary's door, which of course means 1,000, and were saying just "A hundred welcomes" lol

SHH - Big thanks for posting your pictures here! I often forget to check out the weather thread, and I know I’m missing some great pictures in there.

My two favourite of your thread are these - incredible lighting and great composition - perfect! And wild how they have the names of many of those banned from the liquor store, lol.

Beautiful, not a composition I’ve noticed before, but I guess when I’ve been in Vancouver I haven’t been shooting with a long lens:

One thing we can say about Victoria’s Chinatown is that it has a beautiful gate - so many larger North American cities have these mundane, too tall pillar type of gates:

Anyways, your photos are inspiring as always. I tend to prefer taking photos of buildings and then let people walk in it, so they are minor characters - whereas you often do the reverse, but one still gets a great sense of the city in your photos. Doesn’t hurt either than you’re an excellent photographer, lol. I’m going to try and take a few more people focused shots, use aperture more although my old camera isn’t that great compared to the modern people tracking technology as found in the new Sony cameras. No excuse though, time to practice and try new things. Any tips or advice?

Would love to see some recent pics from other cities underrepresented in this thread - Nanaimo, Kamloops, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon and Halifax stand out as cities we haven’t seen for a while.

Great photo set, Zoomer. You make Victoria look even more appealing than it already is.

To answer your question, that's the CIBC building downtown.

I think you're on the right path. You have a great style that easily identifiable. As for people photography, a zoom lens helps. It keeps you from disturbing your subject, and ruining the natural and spontaneous element of street photography. I don't have tracking either, but my auto focus is on point, so I'm able to capture the person or people in focus without too much issue.

Another thing is to stay put for a bit, and let everything kinda happen around you. Like bird watching, patience is a virtue.

Man - I love that set Wpg-Guy, another one of the great photographers here that inspires. I need to remember to check out the Photography section and the Weather thread more often here. So I’ll try to take more people pics and play with aperture, but I was out today and defaulted to my usual style, lol. Thanks for the tips Giallo - patience.. let it come to me. Wpg-Guy reminds me to include more food shots, window displays and indoor shots - helps to give a rounded picture of the city.

Creamy reds and showers SHH!! Lol, I had to check back to see if you were referring to Giallo’s photos, but his set had a lot of blue’s and greys. I guess I wasn’t really conscious how much red is part of the Victoria palette.

Some of you have no doubt seen this series on street photography - this woman left it all out there, what a force! A bit of swearing thus you have to click through to Youtube, but TRUST ME, you won’t regret it.

First three pics from the BC Government Flickr account - the 109 year old Vic High reopened this week after four years and $100 million in seismic upgrades. The lawns around the two sides still need to be seeded. Vic High is the oldest public high school in western Canada, first opened as a log cabin in 1876 on another nearby site.
