Nice pictures Living. I've heard from other people as well that the food at Peking Garden is good. Shame the building is butt ugly.

I saw people talking about Tai Thai on the construction thread . I've never eaten there, and have been wondering what the deal is?

^^For one it's not Thai, it's Vietnamese. It's got noodles and subs, but neither are as good as almost any Pho place or the more popular sub places like Thi Thi or Kim Anh. The grain exchange location is basically business lunch hours only.

The other day I headed to That Old Retro Store in Forrest Lawn to help a friend buy some speakers. It's totally amazing. There are some serious ageing rockers running the shop, the proprietor had the most amazing paige boy mullet I've ever seen. Anyway, their website doesn't do their stock justice. They had some serious power amps, monitors and and the coolest turn table I've ever seen, vertically oriented with linear tracking, for $420 with a brand new cartridge.

Anyone interested in hi-fi should check this place out. My friend, btw got a pair of very decent KEF towers for under $500.

They are also a dealer of the Calgary-owned audiophile firm, Grant Fidelity.

The Broken Plate - Have we talked about this place before?

I've got a $100 gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket.

One of my faves. Had the Alexander Swords every single time I've been there except the last time - broke free and we tried the dinner for two. Was great - first Moussaka I've had there and it's a definite repeat dish.

The Purple Perk had a large handpainted sign in the window yesterday reading "Cafe Mercato", leading me to assume that it had been bought. Today, everything appears back to normal. Anybody hear anything about this?

Speaking of Mercato. What do you guys think of it? I've heard it's expensive. Is the quality good?

Broken Plate is pretty good. My favorite place used to be on 4th street, called Andreas Taverna. It was a great place too bad it closed.

I always speak highly of it. The dinner for 2 is great.

My 2 faves:

The Salmon wrapped in filo
Rack of Lamb

Both are done outstanding there.

Impressive space, (considering I spent many years eating in the cafeteria that used to be there). Prices, definitely on the outrageous side.

Most importantly, unless you know you like the taste of corn fed beef , don't go for anything other than the Alberta striploin. I can almost guarantee you'll be disappointed.

Ruth's Chris has done an amazing job with the decor and the space, too bad the food is expensive and not that great.

The time I went there, it was full of groups of businessmen, no regular people. Who else would pay their prices for average food.

Dropped into Bagolac earlier, have to give it a thumbs up. Their pad thai was really good, and the prices weren't bad. Most items in the $8-12 range, which is competitive with Oriental Phoenix a few blocks north, though the menu at Bagolac is bigger and I have an attachment to OP's rice vermicelli.

Which Oriental Pheonix? The one down south?
