Swine-free zone
Luxe One57 bars bunnies, BBQs too

Quote:
[BIf high rollers are thinking of moving into One57, the ultra-posh 90-story condo tower opposite Carnegie Hall, they’ll have to leave their pot-bellied pig behind. The plump porkers are just one of several types of pets barred from the Midtown high-rise, according to a 296-page public filing detailing the condo bylaws.

Gerbils, guinea pigs and bunnies are verboten as well — as are hens and ponies. Yes, break it to the kids gently. In fact, no more than two “orderly domestic” pets — that is, dogs, cats, caged birds and aquarium fish — will be allowed into the building, where units are reportedly in contract for as much as $45 million per floor.

And get this: a photograph of each pet must be given to the board before the non-human family member will be allowed into the building. “Nothing I heard is unusual except the photograph of the pet,” said lawyer Jay Neveloff, a partner with Kramer Levin, who writes many condo plans but was not involved in this one.

Among other restrictions: terraces at One57, with sweeping views of Central Park, cannot be used for barbecues, as bicycle storage, or to contain toys or baby carriages.

Thinking of decorating your windows with Christmas or Hanukkah lights? Well, forget it. Even curtains and blinds must be approved by the board, according to the filing.

The bylaws even bar the practicing of musical instruments or singing from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., which, of course, does make it harder for talented residents to get to the One57’s prominent neighbor, Carnegie Hall. Phonographs, radios, televisions, computers and stereos also can’t be played loudly during that time, if it “disturbs or annoys” other occupants.

In other words, the building at 157 W. 57th St., now being completed by Gary Barnett’s Extell Development, is not exactly a party tower.

Also off-limits is massage “therapy,” any nude or semi-nude performances, or, heaven forbid, modeling.

And if a foreign government buys a unit, it can’t open any offices, embassies or a consulate. [/B]

Having loud parties is one thing, but if I'm paying $10 Million+ for a condo no one is allowed to tell me that I can't have a rabbit or a masseuse.

What an amazing building

two buildings 200+ feet taller will soon accompany it too.

From Central Park I always thought New York looked smaller than it was, due to the low building line except for TimeWarner. This tower and 432 (and others in the future) are completely changing how the city is perceived from inside the park. I really like the idea of Central Park being enveloped by taller and taller buildings on its perimeter.

I should also point out, just so everyone's on the same page, this tower will be sandwiched between two taller towers. It's an odd thought, because it dominates everything around it now. But it doesn't look like it will remain that way.

I've totally thought the same thing as well.

imaging the skyline from central park in 5 years when you've the central park south vornado building (probably a super tall or very near to it), this one, the steinway tower, tower verre, the nordstrom tower, and the drake hotel tower, it'll be a bit crazy to people who remember the old skyline. not hard to imagine in 2020 or 2025 a good dozen new 900ft+ towers in that part of midtown, even if prices don't stay sky high - in a nyc where you can do a super tall on a tiny 45ftx65ft parcel, the notion of consolidating numerous parcels seems pretty old school.

The south side looks very good in the photos. It's the west side that could be improved/whatever... it's still an impressive building.

NYGuy... you have one hell of a telescopic lens going on there. That building in the forfront with the urn top is at Union Square (14th St) and it appears you are well below that. And the gold top NY Life building is at 26th. This building is at 57th.

Great shots! Can only imagine what this view will look like when the Nordstrom tower and the one just to the at 107 W 57th just to the east of this one get constructed!!!

Those pics were taken from the Brooklyn Bridge. It gives you an idea of how condensed Midtown seems from that point.

Its amazing that in about 3 years or so this will look short compared to its neighbors. Thank you top .0001% of income earners for giving us these towers, about the only good thing theyve given us.

What a gorgeous shot!

What is that building in the lower left corner with the arches lit? When I left NY it was a Bowery Savings Bank. I believe it is across the street form the Ansonia.
