Seeing these renderings makes me happy to live in staid, old Philadelphia. A project like this wouldn't even make it to the zoning board. It's no wonder Michael Jackson moved to Dubai -- it seems to be a place run by children with lots of money. Unfortunately, money CANNOT buy taste or sophistication. This project is a joke!

ive seen images of the models, and there appears to be models (yes, not only one model) of the titanic...one of them i think seems to be depicted as sinking...anyways, is there any information about this? are they going to build this titanic model?? does anyone know if they will rebvuild the interiors as well???

PS: just read that Cunard´s Queen Elizabeth II has just been sold for about 100.000 dollars to become a hotel in dubai. The inner upgrades alone (plus the ultilization of the engine room once they are removed) will need an investement of another 50 to 100 million dollars.

^ It's still in development stages. Models just give general views. There will be coasters-a-plenty as with any amusement park and they will be very unique. Amusement park plans change very frequently even after they are built, except here there are skyscrapers planted in the middle of it, so it will be interesting to follow. Right now, their first alteration is to actually make it bigger:

Dubailand taking shape
Gulf Daily News
Wednesday, June 20 2007

DUBAI: Widely touted as the Middle East's very own Orlando, Dubailand, a cluster of mega-billion-dollar projects, is gradually emerging across the desert sands of the booming emirate.

Initially planned to cover an area of two billion square feet, Dubailand, billed as the "world's most ambitious tourism, leisure and entertainment project," is expected to be a sprawling three billion square feet. This would make it larger than the entire city of Orlando, Florida - home to Walt Disney World, Universal Resort, Sea World and a variety of other attractions and hotels.

"Dubailand is going to be a city within a city," said Mohammed Al Habbai, chief executive officer of Dubailand, a subsidiary of the government-owned Tatweer.

The entire 24-project venture, not scheduled for completion before 2025, is estimated to cost 235 billion dirhams, 60 per cent of which is expected to come from private investors.

Dubailand will also house the world's largest transparent snow dome and a Universal Studio theme park, announced in March by Tatweer.

Dubai turns QE2 into floating hotel
Laith Abou-Ragheb
Mon, 18 Jun 2007

The booming Gulf emirate of Dubai announced on Monday it had bought the Queen Elizabeth 2, one of the world's most majestic cruise liners, and planned to turn it into a luxury floating hotel.

Dubai said it has paid Cunard Line $100-million for the liner, the latest move in its ambition to become a global tourism desert hotspot ranking alongside Las Vegas.

Will be ‘cherished’

"Dubai is a maritime nation and we understand the rich heritage of QE2. She is coming to a home where she will be cherished," Dubai World chairperson Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said in a statement.

The QE2 has crossed the Atlantic more than 800 times in its 40-year lifetime and carried over 2.5 million passengers.

But it will sail no more once it is berthed at a huge multi-million-dollar palm-shaped artificial island and turned into a luxury hotel from 2009, according to the plans unveiled by Istithmar, the investment arm of state-owned Dubai World development company.

The Palm Jumeirah, which is one and a half times the size of New York's Central Park and can be seen from space, will eventually include thousands of luxury apartments and villas as well a hotel part-owned by billionaire Donald Trump.

Dubai sprints to go big

The 293 metre long ship weighs around 70 000 tons and has a combined guest and crew capacity of 2794, Cunard said on its website.

Dubai's latest purchase is just another step in the city-state's sprint to become a major tourist and leisure destination to rank alongside Las Vegas and Orlando in the United States.

The ship, which was launched by Queen Elizabeth II herself in September 1967, is the longest-serving cruise liner in Cunard's 168-year history and was its longest-serving flagship.

Since it came into service in 1969, the ship has undertaken 25 world cruises, has crossed the Atlantic more than 800 times and has carried more than 2.5 million passengers.

Back to her former glory

Istithmar said its refurbishment programme would aim to recreate the ship's original interior and would also include a museum celebrating its rich history.

Dubai has undertaken several other mega-projects in order to more than double the number of its tourists to 15 million by 2015.

Work on Dubailand, a cluster of billion-dollar schemes billed as the "world's most ambitious tourism, leisure and entertainment project", is well under way.

Scheduled for completion around 2025, Dubailand is estimated to cost 235-billion dirhams ($64-billion) and will also house the world's largest transparent snow dome and a Universal Studio theme park.

Equally ambitious is Burj Dubai, or Dubai Tower, which is touted to become the world's tallest skyscraper.

Launched in early 2004, the construction of the $1-billion tower by South Korea's Samsung should be completed at the end of 2008.

Dubai, to me, looks like the place where, if you were to spend a month there, everywhere else in the entire world would be boring, because there, everything is the biggest and the best, the tallest, the fastest. Dubai is making the rest of the world more and more of a bland place, imo.

I got some more stuff for this thread somewhere, but I don't know where it is at the moment. I think it's new/revised billboards and more models from the very first posts here that I never got around to. Boy, I'm glad I grabbed that stuff because the website is long gone, or ....

The park looks too much like a office park, because I see more office-style buildings than attractions and rides....

yes it almost all is better. In human development Dubai has the best but Dubai will never be able to re-create the Amazon, The Sahara, the Grand Cayon or the Polar Artics because nature is perfect and humans can only create visuals or the real thing.
about re-making famous landmarks i think that its nice but it too non-original. Las Vegas already did it.
who knows maybe all this stuff is being built too fast that rides will begin to break and hotels will have cracks and some maybe even have to be shut down.
oh and Dubai will have to advance a long way to be the greatest city on earth. not just happy things make a city great. transportation, ECONOMY, all standards of PEOPLE, health care services, taxes, EDUCATION and hundreds of things contribute to a great city. I used to think Dubai was the best, and it is...for those who have money.
but great cities admit it or not have to be Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul
+what type of name is Dubailand?

mehhh!! All this is garbage!! The QEII doesn't deserve a spot in this city. This ship is way too beautiful and too much of an engineering wonder to be in Dubai. What are they going to do? Put the ship in a giant pool in the Marina or Dubailand? Gees stop with all this already

Ugh. Ahh. What is this? I'll tell you what it is, It's an insult to modern and ancient structures. All these cheap looking and badly done replicas are humiliating to some of the actual great wonders that Dubai has made like Palm Jumeirah, Burj Dubai and Burj Al Arab!!
