By: NY1 News

Quote:
Hundreds of runners are getting ready to take their fitness to another level at one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

The 36th annual Empire State Building Run-up takes place tonight.

More than 600 competitors will have to climb more than 1,500 stairs as they race to the observation deck on the 86th floor.

Among those taking part are defending champ Thomas Dold of Germany, who is looking for his eighth straight victory.

NY1's Pat Kiernan and Jamie Shupak will be among those taking part.

The race is organized by the New York Road Runners club.

If I can run up from the 1st floor to the 4th floor of a building in half a minute (appox. 30 sec) Then that's 8 floors in a minute. So that's 80 floors in 10 minutes, and the 6 extra floors would be 45 secs. So 10 minutes and 45 secs it would take me to run 86 floors (with water). The current record is 9 minutes and 33 secs. I better start training. First I'll start in Harlem and run across Central Park.

Can we all agree and say that this is the best skyline humanity has ever built? I mean, come one.

The best skylines in world history, and forever more, are the 1930s-early 1960s skylines of downtown and midtown Manhattan, respectively.

That shot almost brings tears to my eyes. I don't think there is another skyscraper as synonymous with it's city as the Empire State is. And the way the sparkles around it, classic.

But yeah, Downtown and Midtown, so impressive, even then.
