Couture Cleared to Rise...

Judge clears way for county land sale for Couture high-rise

Quote:
Designs for the proposed 44-story tower to be built there include: 302 high-end apartments; restaurant and retail space; a parking structure; station for the city's downtown streetcar service; transit concourse for buses; and a publicly accessible plaza.
This is one of the 3 towers I mentioned above that could be rising by the end of the year. This is a MAJOR victory for a project that has been waiting, shovel-ready, for 3 years now. The other 2 towers are 711 E which is being held up by financing but still could break ground by the end of the year, and Mandel's "Block 9" which is rumored to be breaking ground by the end of the year.

The Couture adds to the building boom that Milwaukee is currently experiencing. NML's 550 foot tower is rising next to the 18-story, 833 East. The Couture, at 500 feet, will be rising adjacent to both and include a streetcar station running through the base of the tower. The streetcar is cleared and ready to break ground this fall. This ruling is significant because it also affects JCI's rumored tower which may very well become Milwaukee's new tallest building. At 50 stories, JCI is rumored to be in the 700-800 foot range.

In addition to NML, 833 East, Couture, and JCI; plans for a Westin, 875 East expansion, and a mixed-use project of unknown scope being developed by NML (separate form their U/C tower) are being formulated. All 7 projects will be rising within a few square blocks.

Then there is the $500 million arena and surrounding $400 million hotel, retail, entertainment, office, and residential development lurking the shadows on the west side of downtown that should be decided on in the next couple weeks....

Check back in fall. The list of projects may indeed double. Sure seems like the start to an exciting boom period in Milwaukee. Lurking on the horizon are 3 more residential skyscrapers, a new 17,000-seat arena with $400 million in surrounding development, streetcar, and countless infill/conversion projects. There are also rumored new, potentially large headquarters in the planning for companies such as WEC, BMO Harris, Gardner Denver (call center), Hammes, Artisan Partners, and the grandaddy of them all (and potentially a new tallest for Brew City) Johnson Controls. Lots of activity in Milwaukee. I'll try and keep this thread updated.

Do you have any more info about the possible three residential skyscrapers you mentioned? I'm not sure I've heard about those before.

Thank you very much for sharing all of these photos, Bucksfan. I'm an avid fan of Milwaukee, so it's nice to get the updates, and see the investment going on.

Streetcar Construction Starts in October

Quote:
Construction work on the utilities will begin in advance of the track and overhead wire system, with design work being completed next month for the public utilities. Contracts will be awarded for that work in September. The first streetcar project shovels will go into the ground in October. The utility work is expected to be completed in August 2016.

Wisconsin Senate approves $250M funding plan for Milwaukee Bucks arena

Quote:
“This is a game-changing moment for Milwaukee and the entire state,” said Sheehy. “I am extremely pleased that legislators on both sides of the aisle politically were able to come together around this exciting vision of a brighter future.”
Pending approval from State Assembly and Milwaukee Common Council, both of which seem like formalities at this point, construction is to begin in October or November.

Milwaukee seems as if it's teeing itself up to hit the ground running in a few short months. It's going to be an exciting couple of years in Brew City.

No problem. It kind of seems like this thread gets forgotten since everyone from Milwaukee posts at SSC. I'll do my best to keep this updated.
