The New York boom is about 3 times more massive than Chicago's in the 00s, so we really need a compilation thread. The city is competing with Asian cities, pretty incredible.

Btw., good idea about linking the threads. I'll link the supertalls on the first page (and in the coming days the rest...).

Referenced your thread hunser in the highrise thread under useful compilations threads. Front page is almost done. Added almost every single thread for nyc on SSP to the directory on the first page. Just need to add the ones under construction.

Also added a CTBUH list of 98m to 400 plus for every NYC project. As of March 2015.

Added two more high rise sets. Almost done covering all the high rises for the 2014/15 cycle. Also added links for threads to JC and Newark projects.

I might add links for the photo threads but not sure yet.

Its so many projects lol. I know you wanted to do the Shenzhen thing hunser and thats probably even more work.

Yea I agree. I decided to go with them, they are accurate. For now I set the limit at 98m and above, but maybe I will add 35m or above in the future. Thing is, for high rises 35m to 97m, the list jumps incredibly, so I think for sake of length, I'll stay at the current constraints of [98, 400m +).

About 1,200 feet. Last 200 feet are mechanicals, mass damper and the crown.

Does anybody know the definition we are using for megatall? CTBUH classifies any building over 300m as megatall and 600m as supertall.

Also, will we ever see a supertall in NYC, at least within a reasonable time-frame, by 2020-2025?

Was always under the impression that 300m is a supertall and 600m is a megatall.

You need FAA approval to construct megatalls in the United States.

Yes approval for anything, even if its a radio tower when its at 2000 ft or greater. They simply have to have a good reason (the developer) to build one, economic purpose, extensive studies, and go through the full process with the FAA, and if the conditions are right, they will accept. 2000 ft isn't necessary a max on what someone can build, but it does require more work on the developer's part.

With the flight paths being the way they are here, 2000 feet or greater, if that may come one day, won't be a big issue as in lets say Miami or Seattle.

I think a 600m is very realistic, and I'll tell you where I can see one going up, in Midtown East. Something multi-use, with large floor plates for the commercial aspect, a hotel, and a mix of residential could be the type of 600m that would happen in NY.

Two good options for something like this are Midtown East, and the lot for Hudson Yards Phase 2.
