Cabela’s Inc. Announces Plans For Store In Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Cabela’s expects to open the Edmonton store in fall of 2011. The 70,000-square-foot building will be located in the new Currents of Windermere shopping development on Windermere Boulevard, between Terwillegar Drive and Anthony Henday Drive. This store will be the second Cabela’s location in Canada, joining the Winnipeg store, which was converted from the S.I.R. Warehouse Sports Store in May 2008.

Jasper Ave west of 105 St - both the Fantasia Noodle House and Raleigh convenience store are closed and the retail bays cleaned out. Anyone know what's going on there?

this chain has just sort of rebranded itself and is a little more upscale than it used to be - the latest collections have been really nice

U.S.-based retail giant opening in Edmonton

EDMONTON — Restoration Hardware will open its first Edmonton store on Nov. 15 at Southgate Centre.

Despite its name, the U.S.-based retail giant is an upscale home furnishings and decor store rather than a traditional hardware centre. Its Canadian locations include Vancouver and Calgary.

The 11,000-square-foot Edmonton store will open in Southgate’s former food court area near The Apple Store.

“It’s a perfect fit in terms of the Southgate Centre brand being quality, premium and sophistication,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge. “The target customer is in that upper income area for the most part.”

Restoration Hardware will be a destination retailer drawing from across the city and beyond, he said.

Spruce Grove development two years ahead of schedule

BY DAVID FINLAYSON, EDMONTON JOURNAL

Choosing Spruce Grove as the site for a $75-million multi-phase commercial development is paying off for Edmonton's Camgill Enterprises.

Interest from retailers is so strong the company is more than two years ahead of schedule with Century Crossing and expects to have the whole 16 hectares built out by 2013, vice-president Ron Mosher says.

Initial $16-million development of the site at Highway 16A and Century Road, anchored by a Shoppers Drug Mart, will be done by next summer.

It will also include a Starbucks, two financial institutions, a restaurant, medical space and mid-sized box retailers Mosher can't yet name.

A major food retailer, also unidentified, will follow in the fall, and a hotel, several box stores new to the community, more retail and office space, and a children's park will be in place by the end of 2012.

"We are surprised at the amount of activity in Spruce Grove, but the market is perceived by the retail community as being under-retailed, and it's a young, family oriented community that retailers want to target," Mosher says.

He also says the town of Spruce Grove's co-operation in getting the development moving was a big factor in being ahead of schedule.

"We're a small-market developer and it's often difficult because of the lack of infrastructure, but Spruce Grove hasn't been puck shy about spending the money to attract development."

The 40-year-old company has developments from Winnipeg to Comox, B.C., including two office buildings in Edmonton and shopping centres in Airdrie and St. Paul.

Not overly impressed with what I saw in the South Gate store. If you look around you can find the same styles else where.

^And another business will emerge where this left off.

Here is what a local broker sent me regarding the retail bays in Serenity.

"As for the Serenity condos the pricing is very aggressive and the vendors are willing to wait it out. They are also trying to sell the units as opposed to leasing them knocks out a lot of the logical candidates. Our guys are close with a few groups but it is just a slow process – they are confident they will all get sold. "

^Get real. For f*ck sakes, just because the Journal does a quick story on IHOP opening up, which is a recognized brand no matter what town your in, it doesn't mean everyone is all wet over it.
