Edmonton on the Long Weekend - Suggestions

The Mrs. has convinced me we have to bolt town on the Canada Day weekend. Edmonton appears to be the destination of choice. Any (polite) suggestions on how to best occupy our time would be most welcome. The plan is to stay downtown, we'll have a 9 year old girl in tow and WEM is decidedly not on the itinerary. Thanks.

Hit up the downtown farmer's market on 104st for breaky, walk.

Head to the Leg grounds for Canada Day activities

Get on the High Level Streetcar and take it over to Old Strathcona

Walk the Ave

Either take it back or walk back through the river valley, stop in Kinsmen for a water, play at the park, picnic.

Walk back through Leg grounds

------

Other ideas:

Take the Edmonton Queen Riverboat for a ride

Go watch the Canada Day fireworks. I think a good viewing location will be on River Valley Road, since that will be the debut of the new High Level Bridge lights.

Fort Edmonton Park. then down into the valley for the fireworks.

Also head out to St Albert for the market there and stop by Jacks Burgers and order a Creamcicle Milkshake.

I agree and the reverse:

Get on the High Level Streetcar and take it over to Old Strathcona.

See a movie at the Princess Theatre, visit the Old Strathcona Farmer's Market, watch the Whyte Ave Canada Parade and pick up fixins for a picnic and then walk the area. Then either take the streetcar back downtown and walk to Legislature and picnic or walk back through the river valley, stop in Kinsmen park to rest, play and picnic and then cross the river by the LRT bridge and go up the hill to the Legislature for Canada festivities there and of course fireworks later.

^one last suggestion, if you have enough energy left, walk back to downtown across the high level bridge. the views are spectacular, the bridge is VERY long and VERY high and it's quite a unique experience. walking over it let's you really appreciate it more than driving or cycling over it.

I agree with all that has been suggested here, a few more suggestions:

- After walking through the Downtown Farmer's Market on 104 Street, can head to CHurchill Square for the Works Art & Design Festival. http://www.theworks.ab.ca/. There will be Canada day activities at City Hall, AGA, and the Library as well I believe.

- Other direction is heading to the Leg for activities - http://www.assembly.ab.ca/canadaday/
