RAMSA’s 220 Central Park South Getting Finishing Touches On Billionaires’ Row

The 67-story residential tower contains 593,000 square feet of newly built space and stands 950 feet tall above Central Park South. This tower joins Robert A. M. Stern Architects’ other projects in Midtown, including 15 Central Park West and 520 Park Avenue. The property made headlines in January, when its 23,000-square foot penthouse was purchased by Ken Griffin for $238 million, becoming the most expensive home sale in United States history.

An exact completion date 220 Central Park South has not been formally announced. But the project could be done by the end of this year or early 2021 at the very latest.

It’s possible that the restaurant would be positioned to face south and take advantage of the high windows, as seen at the bottom of the photo below.

Records from from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene confirmed Jean Georges’ upcoming presence in the development. The world-famous chef, restaurateur, businessman, and author of a number of best-selling cookbooks manages a number of three-to four-star restaurants across the country and around the world.

The slender reinforced concrete superstructure sits between West 58th Street and West 59th Street and rises 950 feet above Central Park South. SLCE Architects is the executive architect, while the interiors are being designed by Thierry W. Despont.

A completion date for 220 Central Park South has not been formally announced, but it may be finished sometime in the first half of 2020.

220 Central Park South Readies For 2020 Opening In Midtown

Photos show that the crown is mostly complete, with the exception of a few small sections at the corners.

The exterior hoist was taken down earlier this year and the rest of the curtain wall of the slender eastern elevation was quickly filled in. Meanwhile, the ground-floor space on West 58th Street and Central Park South progressed rapidly with the motor courtyard almost complete. The crown is fully illuminated at nighttime and features spotlights that shine upward on all four sides of the faceted limestone roof parapet. The ten units inside the 18-story annex, named “The Villas,” are also nearing completion.

Robert Stern now has buildings on three sides of Central Park: 520 Park Avenue on the Upper East Side, 15 Central Park West on the Upper West Side, and now, his tallest creation in New York City, which eclipsed the height of 30 Park Place in Lower Manhattan by 24 feet.

220 Central Park South is likely to be finished next year.
