I love those kitschy 50's - 70's apartment buildings! They can look good in any city, but are (for some reason) especially nostalgic and cool when there are a couple of palm trees waving in front of them. Maybe I lived in one somewhere off the Strip in my former life...

Nice shots. I like that kind of 60s architecture.

This is different.

Were those pics all from the Hamilton area or were they a collection of pics from all over?

They are all in Hamilton. Hamilton has hundreds of apartment buildings of this vintage.

It's kind of funny they all have names. I actually like this building, "Caletta":

Oh, dear. I hate it. I love it.

I lived in a building like these in Madison, WI. It was hideous (blank cinder block wall facing the street), but it was solid concrete, you couldn't hear a peep from the neighbors and it stayed relatively cool in the summer.

Excellent and entertaining idea for a compilation.

Hmmm, well if you did that Hamilton's skyline wouldn't really exist, unfortunately :s haha

May I add another retro school to the mix? It's the late Queen Victoria School:

I actually really like this kind of architecture. It kind of reminds me of Frank Loyd Wright with the large overhangs and slab like facades.

It's meant to remind you of FLW. It's like the vertical version of the Usonian house.

I used a script for GIMP (a free alternative to PS) called "vintage film effect" which can be found in the FX Foundry plugin pack. I'm not familiar with GIMP's scripting language, but it looks like the script adjusts saturation and contrast, then adds a sepia layer and then a magenta layer. Obviously more complicated than that but the effect looks good.

I'm not big on radical photo processing, but I think this looks suitable for the subject. I would have preferred to use actual film but I don't have a wide lens for my Nikon FG.

I'm also kicking myself for not taking some shots inside the lobbies of these buildings. Many of them still have the original decor.
