Wow, what a turnaround from the depths of despair in 2009. We just have to make sure we never go back to those days...the city has to keep working to diversify the economy.

Anyone have any idea what's going on at the southeast corner of George & Wyandotte? It was a city owned park, but now I see trailers on site and land being dug/moved around.

I can't find the actual article from a few weeks ago talking about it, but it's another phase of a project where they're building a water retention basin under the baseball diamond in that park, and at the same time they are updating the park.

NVM found the article

Excellent, thank you. I couldn't fathom otherwise what could've been going on there.

The Box has officially closed (signs are off the building). A source has told me they'll be closed for around a month, and will re-open as No Frills in early May.

So nice to see Transit Windsor expanding into Lasalle. Hopefully this is the beginning of a true regional transit system for Windsor/Essex!

And there's also this:

There’s a new multi-million dollar investment in Windsor.

Rock Development confirms construction of retail stores and restaurants will begin this summer, on a 130-thousand square foot vacant lot, just south of Devonshire Mall.

It's a development that is expected to create hundreds of jobs locally while providing consumers with more choices to shop and eat.

They keep saying that there isn't enough housing supply to match the demand so you'd think at some point we'd hear about some proposals for new residential buildings. But Farhi owns some of the best land for these and we know he won't do anything with it.

It's gotta happen sooner or later though, especially with such demand for housing and one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country! But I'm pretty sure that Farhi will not be the one to do it, he just sits on properties as opposed to actually building anything.

It's nice to see that DT and the central part of the city have the highest amount of sales in the region, as it's been the area hardest hit by the past recession. Hopefully this will increase the population around DT, which showed a decline in the 2011 census. I've also been seeing some new homes being built on empty lots in the inner city area, a good sign that it's not just the neighbourhoods on the edge of the city that are getting all the new homes being built anymore!

Now, if we could only get some new condos and apartment buildings built, both Mid and high rise, I'd be very happy, especially if they are DT. Vacancy rates are the lowest they've been in 20 years, let's take advantage of this and get things going!

Downtown gained population between 2011 and 2016 so it has turned around a bit and I assume the growth has only accelerated in the past year.

Then they're going to build a new hospital in a bean field by the airport in nowhereville and marginalize the current hospitals located in the core. What a missed opportunity to build up the core of the city with a new mega hospital.

Happy to see that the province is allotting the money needed for the next phase of the new local mega hospital. This means it's now finally going through and not just a wish anymore! A much needed investment in this region, regardless of the location that was picked.
