Awesome gritty pics of my favourite Canadian City!..
Montreal is so un-pretentious and real..There is a certain "Joie De Vivre", and je ne sais quoi vibe about that city that I didn't get anywhere else that I visited.

It would be almost impossible to have a more interesting set of Montreal pics. Even the laughing cow herself, Pauline Marois.

interesting story behind that photo ...one of my neighbors a hood (who had ties with biker gangs) got himself in hot water by owing over $200,000, instead of paying he pulled a disappearing act, well that didn't go over too well with the bad guys who decided to flush him out by firebombing his dad's car, when that didn't work they came back a couple of weeks later and firebombed his dad's work van, however this time things went very badly with a second firebomb exploding in the stolen Porsche SUV, they got a few hundred feet away before crashing into a parked car and then fled on foot... so now you know the full story

Thanks for the info. I am glad some guys looking for heartpumping trouble get what they deserve though. I just hope you dont get your lens scratched when the bboys come around. Your thread is really good. There is plenty of photogenic sweet architecture and folk in Montreal, but somehow the gritty bits are just as enticing, and you do the right job of conveying this.

These are fantastic photos.

When viewing them, I thought about two possible reactions from the extremes: on the one hand the anti-Montreal set would yell ''Aha! I told you so!'' and on the other the Montreal patriots would react highly defensively. Fortunately, we haven't had much of either.

But it did get me thinking that this type of stuff can be seen in pretty much any city of significant size in the world. Even perennial SSP favourites like Paris and London have their seamy sides.

I grew up in Ottawa which has a reputation for being prim and proper and has little industrial heritage, but as a young man I was shocked the first time I took the train out of Ottawa to see weedy lots with rusted fences filled with rusting shells of old buses and trucks with smashed windows, along with a whole lot of other land-bound flotsam and jetsam of modern life. I never suspected this type of crap existed in Ottawa.
