My suggestion is that Jeff Bezos needs to go and get his heart recalibrated. It has now steered him wrong twice.

They don't have to be "unemployed". They have to be "under-employed" meaning working in jobs they may consider beneath their skill level. And if you have a large enough pool--that's NY's primary advantage; pure size--you are bound to have lots of people willing to consider shifting employers.

I don't think any of that really matters. Carnegie is not going to single handedly feed a retail giant's major HQ. They need to be in a highly populated area and most places east of the Mississippi will do fine. There are great colleges who produce all over the country, grads are very mobile and Seattle area universities don't really feed Amazon.

What's really beneficial is attracting cheaper "talent" through visas worldwide and Canada is much better for that than the US.

They clearly want to be in New York and are not leaving, this is all just mind games.

Yes, I know. I said "underemployed" deliberately lol. There isn't a lot of that here. Tech talent in NYC in more expensive than almost anywhere else in the country, except SF and Seattle.

Definitely pulling for Nashville.

Amazon only planning to occupy a small portion of a massive development called Nashville Yards for now, so there's plenty of room for expansion yet.

This Amazon HQ2 thing seems to be such a boondogly nonsense, having cities throwing massive incentives to the biggest corporation on earth like a bunch of barking seals.

Bezos is a genius, love this guy.

Oh not this Amazon shit again. Please lock this thread. Until Amazon officially decides to back out of Queens (which I am betting they will not...Amazon is smart and has threatened Seattle many times and their politicians rolled over).

PLEASE for the love of god, I can not handle another Amazon thread. People are already hawking their city, it's the Amazon HQ part 2 thread.

I think this report is as damning as it can get. The deal isn't closed and the opposition will only be emboldened. Queens residents are all for it- but city and state officials have a chip on their shoulders because the execs went around them. Shame.

Newark NJ all the way. I do believe this is a ploy for negotiation, but hey... Newark would be nice. Still within the gravity well of NYC, and it would really, really do wonders for Newark which is growing abysmally compared to Jersey City.

Those tensions spilled into public view on Friday when The Washington Post published an article that said the company was reconsidering its plans to come to Queens. But the two people with direct knowledge of the company’s thinking said the article had gone too far and Amazon had no plans to back out.

I'm fairly certain that already far more NYers commute to Jersey City and Hoboken than to Long Island City. At least for white collar work. Newark is just a couple more stops on the PATH.

Then also keep in mind that a significant percentage of NY's workforce already lives in NJ.

You know, I talk bad about Detroit a lot but I honestly wish a city like that "won." They would be grateful for the jobs and incoming money.

They should reconsider all of the top 20 who were not chosen.

*why was skyscraperpage17 banned?

The leaking of this news can only embolden the opposition in NYC. Not a good look.
