I know this is probably a silly question, but how do they get the diggers and cranes out of the site, after they dig out the dirt ramp? (On the eastern end of the construction site) PS: (Please don't slap me.)

Oh Thank Goodness. I felt alone here. Thanks Kyle! You made my day, but I'm still curious? The only thing I could think of is after they get all the trucks, the bulldozers, the crane, etc. out of there, they start to use another crane with a pale on it and dig it out and hoist the dirt out and load on trucks parked in the street?

Two ways:

1) They drive them out, then dig out the ramp with long-armed excavators.

2) They lift them out with the tower crane.

Is it me or is this one moving really really fast? It seems like it was just last year when they announced this would happen and then bam it goes into full on construction mode and we are about to see it above ground very soon. Wow.

Yeah by Philadelphia project standards this thing has moved at warp speed. This is probably a reflection of how badly Comcast needs the space.

Does anyone know when the Tower Crane is expected to go up and where it will actually be positioned with the core?

Perhaps they'll need a third tower?

Or do a last minute change to adding 6 more floors onto this one? (wishful thinking).

Obviously that's not going to happen in this case, but has something like that ever happened? Meaning, are these things architected so precisely that they can't deviate at all without compromising the structural integrity, or is it possible to reassess and safely redesign to add height if the space requirements change?

architected?
anyway, it depends on whether they designed the building with expansion in mind. the gallery at market east (still can't call it Jefferson station) was designed to have 2 or 3 towers built above it when economic conditions allowed. they built the foundations and columns for them but obviously not the towers.

Well, (In "layman's terms"), Obviously not. That's why I said "wishful thinking". BUT, since they are at the base of the construction phase, wouldn't it be possible to look into the possibility of adding more floors? I am certainly not an expert,(Obviously), BUT the concrete's PSI could be determined if it's strong enough to carry the extra weight? The only incident where there was a "last minute" design change, and that was actually before construction, was Mellon Center, but they deleted 6 floors in its height.

They added a floor to the family court building at 15th and arch once the bids came in way lower than expected.

Yes, I think I do remember that. But I forget if it was during the construction stage, or before ground was broken. Is it possible to re-think the design at this stage, or it really too late to even consider it? (Mr. Brian Roberts) are you checking?
