Air Canada will definitely be staying in Terminal 2 since arriving travelers don't need to go through Customs/Immigration like other int'l travelers do (they pre-clear in Canada).

Aeromexico recently moved to Terminal 2 from Terminal 5, so I doubt they will be moving either.

Oh good. So Alitalia is moving on the same day as Air France (the flights not already at TBIT) and KLM. Air New Zealand, according to LAWA, will make the move later this year.

So that leaves Air China, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Australia (departures), and Arkefly as the only long-distance, overseas flights to still be based in T2. The rest are all Canadian/Latin American airlines.

Assuming Alitalia manages to stay around that long, of course!

Why wouldn't it? This is happening in three weeks.

If the sky bridge wont get built...than how will they connect the midfield terminal with the main terminal ? one thing I would hate is for them to decide to link the terminals with a tunnel.... people from around the world arrive to LA and know our history for having some of the best weather in the world just to be pushed underground right when they get off the plane? The sky bridge would have made LAX a unique airport, adding to the theme building, and also gave visitors a little preview of what LA had to offer as they walked across it (aka the weather).
As far as I know the bridge has not been canceled. This is just the first phase of the MSC...hence why they are calling it "MSC North"

I was joking. Alitalia is always on the verge of bankruptcy and in perpetual crisis.

Right! Air Canada will stay at entire terminal 2 since they have US pre-clearance facility. There is no need to move.

I also loved the skybridge with the large swooping arch. The new parts of TBIT aesthetically have met or surpassed most expectations so it'd be nice to see the entire completed structure resemble the original vision.

^ I don't know for a fact that the skybridge is dead. Ignore what I said earlier.

L.A. Airport Board Recommends Approval of Palmdale Lease

This isn't LAX, of course, but it involves LA World Airports (LAWA) and it is interesting. I think LAWA owns 17,000 acres around Palmdale airport. Finding ways to generate revenue from this land is an excellent strategy. It is also nice to see that LA's investment in transit is creating good jobs.

L.A. Airport Board Recommends Approval of Palmdale Lease

San Fernando Business Journal
Monday, April 21, 2014

"The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners recommended approval on Monday of a five-year lease with Japanese railcar manufacturer Kinkisharyo International LCC for space in Palmdale.

The lease covers 250,000 square feet in two buildings owned by the airport that would be used to manufacture railcars for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority. Kinkisharyo, the U.S. arm of Kinki Sharyo Co. Ltd. of Osaka, will pay $4.6 million in rent for the initial five years, with an option for an additional five years.

The lease agreement now goes before the Los Angeles City Council for final approval. The two buildings Kinkisharyo will lease are part of Site 9, a former aircraft manufacturing center used in assembling the B-1 bomber and later for aircraft repairs..."

Linking the Los Angeles Airport

Linking the Los Angeles Airport

By BILLY WITZ
APRIL 21, 2014
NY Times

Los Angeles International Airport has no direct rail lines, only shuttle bus service. But that may change. Credit Monica Almeida/The New York Times

"LOS ANGELES — The two concrete nubs, dotted with rusted sticks of rebar, that protrude from the elevated rail tracks near Aviation Boulevard are reminders of the unfulfilled promise that came nearly 25 years ago with the restart of a rail system here.

They were the start of what were supposed to be extensions of the Green Line to Los Angeles International Airport, two and a half miles away. Instead they are remnants of the political turf wars and planning mistakes that have left the city with a rail system that, among other shortcomings, does not directly connect with the country’s third-busiest airport.

To do so, passengers must exit the rail line, drag their luggage down to street level, board a shuttle bus and ride through the traffic-choked loop to one of the airport’s nine terminals..."

Southwest Airlines wants to spend more than $500 million on its renovation of Terminal 1 at Los Angeles International Airport, or about $125 million more than the project was originally allocated last year, according to documents before the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners.

In other news American is about to sign a long-term lease with United taking over 4 gates, ticket counter space & office space in Terminal 6.

The are pushing LAWA hard to re-open the underground connector to make this work for them.
