I think the same thing but to be fair people’s first impression arriving in salt lake won’t be them turning around to look at the facade as they leave the airport.

I don't think it's unimpressive. It's no less impressive than a lot of major airports like O'Hare. I do agree that it's smaller, at least in length, than a lot of other bigger airports - or even the current airport, though.

I heard a rumor that the new airport is going to be developing a hotel on site. Not sure if this has been discussed but that looks to be part of their future expansion plans.

I saw it as part of the schematic design back in 2013. At that time it was located just west of the new parking garage. This is where the construction/project trailers are now.

I know that they looked into having a hotel built to replace the golf course. I wonder if this would be the location or not.

Honestly, I would love for a hotel to be actually built above one of the terminals, like future terminal 3. Have a hotel built above it so that travelers to would stay at the hotel wouldn't need to leave the airport to get to the airport.

Denver has one, though the design is disappointing.

I'm not sure if this is one on top of Sea-Tac. It looks more like office, but I could be wrong.

The Westin at the Detroit Airport is connected to the terminal and the concourse. As a hotel guest/ticketed passenger you can go through TSA screening from the hotel into the concourse.

How about they name the new terminal after Jake Garn instead of the whole airport? Denver has the Jeppesen Terminal. Reading about Mr. Jeppesen on Wikipedia, the funny thing is that he apparently founded his eponymous aviation company in Salt Lake City (TIL).

It would have to be outside/beyond bag claim and TSA, so travelers can get to their clothes.

I read on the Airport's website this morning, on one of the PDF documents they have up that show the new road configuration, that they will be relocating all cars that are in the old parking garage to the new parking garage.

Is the airport going to have all the cars that are in the old garage tonight towed to the new garage? I'm sure it wouldn't be that many, but surprised they'd simply not let the garage empty over the next few days as people return home.

Does anyone know how many underground tunnels there will be when the entire airport is done (after phase 2)? I thought I read somewhere that the current tunnel connecting the north and south concourses is temporary. Is that true? I also heard someone say that there will ultimately be 3 tunnels (west, mid, and east). Is there a blueprint somewhere that shows the final design?

My understanding is that there will be 3 tunnels once completed. The main tunnel is the middle one. That won't be open until after Phase 2 is complete. Once the main tunnel opens, the West tunnel and the East tunnel will be closed to the general public.

Once a 3rd Terminal is added in the future, they will add train service to the main tunnel.

Wow! Train service. OK well that makes sense. Now all the differing and seemingly contradictory things I've been hearing are all coming together.

I wonder why they would close the east and west tunnels to the public after the central tunnel upgrade? From what I understand, the two tunnels will have moving walk ways and some unique art along their walls. And I know this is hopefully a very temporary concern - but it is much easier to social distance on a moving walkway than in a train.

I posted a picture of the west tunnel a week or two ago (it has all the artwork on the walls). It definitely doesn't have moving walkways in it. And it does kind of feel "temporary" (besides the artwork that's been painted on the walls). It just doesn't look like something designed for the public to use long-term. But who knows.

There is a moving walkway in the west tunnel- you can see it in this picture from the Deseret News:
