Or when a consultant and or engineer realizes that they used the wrong grade of material for the bolt attachments.

Park Paving is on site to do the final lift. Noticed a group of consultants on the bridge and guys were cleaning the SS railings. So I figure it could be open by early next week.

That soon? Wouldn't it have to go through inspections, testing and such? How long would it take to reroute traffic from the old bridge to the new?

Inspections and Testing are ongoing. Rerouting the traffic could be done in a couple of hours. the prep work is done they just need to do the final lift and lines. The rerouting can be done on the weekend.

Move a dozen or so concrete barriers, nick-o-paint, and blammo - done!

(Do they do second stage paving the next year on bridge decks too?)

Anyone know if they repainted the areas with metal bolts where rust stains were showing? I remember a few months ago or so someone highlighted the fact that rust was emanating from certain sections of the bridge. I hope they repainted those sections.

Final prep for the road work across the bridge.

Pedestrian crossing not quite done yet.

River bank restoration (including bike paths) is also outstanding

River Bank retro will be done once the old bridge is removed. They need an access road. I think they said the ped way will not be complete till next spring. Again I think it has to do with the removal of the old bridge.

Interesting to see they have put up the dark screens around the site not complete yet. Tells me the opening is this week. If its not open on Sunday expect a ribbon cutting Mon or Tues.

The Walterdale Bridge opens to traffic Monday, September 18! Thank you, Edmonton, for your patience as we reached this milestone.

This is a phased opening, with two lanes open to northbound traffic and the full closure of the old Walterdale Bridge. The third (west) traffic lane will remain closed for several weeks to complete tie-ins on the north side of the bridge. All three lanes are expected to be open in October.

Pedestrian/cyclist traffic will remain on the west sidewalk of the old bridge until the new west sidewalk opens in October. The new shared-use path on the east side of the bridge will open later this fall.
Quote:
When bridge opens:

The old bridge closes to traffic; new bridge opens 2 lanes
West lane of bridge remains closed until road tie-ins are completed in October
Pedestrians and cyclists continue to use the old bridge until the new west sidewalk opens in October
Kinsmen traffic to new bridge will exit using existing road; access will be realigned once all traffic, pedestrians and cyclists are using the new bridge
Shared-use path opens in late fall

Went by this afternoon, looked ready to go. Some lane work on the north side once Ole wslterdale closes but not much more to go.

went across at about 730. traffic flowing like it normally does although only 2 lanes and a squeeze at the north end - beautiful bridge. I'm anxious to see over the next month or so how traffic settles in once all lanes open at both ends.
