Low Level is about a decade older than the Walterdale, one would think the LLB is possibly next?

Low Level appears to have been designed to a higher standard. Unlike Walterdale, for instance, it can carry the weight of a paved roadbed.

It's not pretty, granted, but I find it very functional.

Fun to watch from that killer patio at the Marriott. (whoops, let that cat out of the bag ....)

Just drove by the bridge and saw that the first set of cables are now fitted on the South portion!

The Low Level was originally built for the railway so it can probably even survive a direct nuclear strike - its that sturdy.

That said, at least paint the darn thing and don't leave it to rot. I wonder if the City has developed a blind eye toward it.

Not to beat a dying horse, but this is the deterioration I'm talking about. I hope the link works, as I could not figure out how to properly embed:

Looking at the paint colour on the north bridge, it looks like the south wasn't rehabbed 10 years ago with it. Hmmm....

They were done at different times.
The south (west) was done first but apparently there were issues with the adhesion of the paint, obvious now, and it's failing way early. Unfortunately to paint it takes a long time and is very expensive and is a major traffic impact.
I know they monitor the structure and will likely defers as long as possible despite the terrible aesthetics.

Paula Simons touched on this early last year. While her column didn't mention any dates for the Southbound bridge, she does mention it's "due to be painted soon," while the Northbound isn't scheduled again until 2026. Which makes me think the City at least has a plan in place, just isn't public?

Having just driven across the NB Low Level, I noticed quite a bit of what appears to be rust stains. It's been 10 years since that rehab work.

Wonder how they are going to connect the two sides. Will they dig the gravel back out on one side to let the river flow and extend the gravel on the other side?
