Best vegetarian restaurants in Montreal

I have a friend going to Montreal for a honeymoon, and I want to send them to a nice restaurant. The only issue they are vegetarian. Do any of you know of any good restaurants which would be a tad classy for a special occasion and also have good vegetarian?

Any info would be great.

A bad city for vegetarians, only on account of missing out on the wonderful array of flesh-serving restaurants.

Le Commensal : http://www.commensal.com/fr/default.idigit

There are two in downtown : one is in the Quartier Latin and the other rigth in the heart of downtown on McGill College.

Next one I don,t know first hand but I give you the link anyway :

http://www.auxvivres.com/fr/accueil/

This site has a more extended list of vegetarian resto's :

I didn't find english translation for this site.

I really enjoyed the Spirit Lounge the few times I went but I heard it closed down a little while ago.
It was a fun place and the food was really good.

Le commensal has some real quality food for sure, but over priced in my experience. 12-20$ for a plate? No thank you.

Hey guys, new poster here.

None of the places suggested above really are "a tad classy", they're all fairly casual. That's true of a lot of the veg places here, they tend to cater to a younger bohemian crowd. A lot of the standout places are heavy on the traditional fare, like the Pied de Cochon.

I'd suggest looking into chowhound.com, it's the best MTL food forum. There are a couple of recent threads on the subject:

Bonne chance mike!

Le commesal is complete and utter shit. Really. All the food is made in factory and then reheated in the store. Open a can of beans and throw some oil and spice on it and you have a better quality meal for 1/10 of the price.

For good vegetarian I would suggest any Indian joint in Park Ex. Les Vivres was better when it was on St Domonique.
