Luhrs City Center

I may be being overly hopeful, but maybe we need a thread for this???

I think it's way premature. The new tower doesnt break ground for months, and the developer has no high-rise experience.

Might as well put some pictures up if you're going to make a thread.

The hotel between the two buildings...love the modern with the old plus the density.

The office lobby...

I posed this question previously but maybe a thread should be created for the criminal courts building. Maybe rename this one. With the tower crane coming down on OCPE the only other tower crane will be at the CC building.

Just figured we might need this, since some plans and permits are around. I don't think we need to wait for a crane to talk about something. I just hope we really have something to talk about. With the economy and all, sure would be amazing to see Luhrs move or moving forward.

Does anyone have any of the permits or plans, other than what is on the site, that HX already put on.?

WOW - With only 10 posts, there have been over 300 people who looked to see what was up. Sure seems like a lot of interest, excitement, or desperation for the project. Hope we get to use this thread a lot......soon!!!

the 2nd image only shows "street level" so the upper levels of all 3 bldgs are cut off. they may not even have an actual rendering yet of the full tower.
the middle, glass faced bldg in that image is the new tower, which is planned to be a hotel. restoration has begun on the Luhrs Building, the one on the left. the Luhrs Tower is on the right.

Just drove past and they are loading new windows into the building. Might be seeing less plywood and more glass.

Except they're tearing down the 95-year-old Luhrs Central Building for this one.

Let's hope they don't tear it down and then the lot sits empty for 5 years.... hopefully it won't be demolished until necessary. But considering the rest of the downtown area, I doubt it.

so something just hit me.... on the picture hx posted, it shows the hotel wedged in between the other buildings wall to wall....

let me ask this if they had plans to do that, why would they replace all the winders on the building? Seems like they would just block them off now to save money later?

In talking to some of the workers there and seeing the sketches, I think the new tower would be set back from the street, leaving the sidewalk shops there. The tower would be built behind them. The alley would be used for the tower too, and there would no longer be an alley. I think then the two existing building windows would be OK.

AND, Vicelord, glad you like the updates. You are more than welcome!!!...and thanks for your wit and grounding statements. they make the forum fun and definitely more interesting.

I was thinking the same thing, and don't those old buildings have like fire escapes and such hanging off their sides too? I imagine the new structure would come close to those edges, but not be directly against them.
