wow Ms. Empire has tossed all caution to the winds . .
and left her dignity far behind . .
lights a-flashin' . . she's really carrying on tonight . .
Happy New Year . . She's gonna regret this in the morning . .

Does anyone know if it's possible for an average person to get access to the 103rd floor? Has that ever happened before? Do they only let people up if they "know" somebody?

I went up there at night after the main deck was closed! There is a small old elevator that takes you up and you can walk around the top

It's highly unlikely. The door to 103 via 102 remains locked and there is an additional locked door on 103 that leads to the outdoor deck. As a former employee in management I only visited once in 2 years and it was by chance. You'd have to have some serious connections to get up there without being some type of celebrity visiting for promotional purposes. For the record, 103 was the most incredible experience that I had in that building. I'll never forget it!

Happy Birthday!

The Empire State Building opened 85 years ago today, May 1 1931. Happy birthday!

It's incredible just how long this building held the record for the world's tallest.

As early as the 70's you could say this legendary structure was the world's tallest, and it would be a true statement! And now we have skyscrapers that are so tall the top levels aren't even habitable.

That being said, god I wish we could have an Art Deco revival in 2016; let it happen!
