I have this fantasy of visiting Montreal and then posting a whole series of photo threads with titles based on that name. "Florence and the Lachine," for example. Or "Rage against the Lachine." "Well-oiled Lachine."

Stuff like that.

LA doesn't have too many uniquely named neighborhoods, but there are a couple standouts.

Eagle Rock
Century City
Studio City
Panorama City
City of Industry
Miracle Mile

^ Did you really have to post all of those?

These threads are useless if people can’t stick to one or two.

Yes that one too!

A few more for Ottawa.

- Hog's Back. Really a park, but also referred to as a neighbourhood.
- Hunt Club - Arterial road, but often referred to as neighbourhood as well.
- Tunney's Pasture.

So far my faves are:

Buckhead - Atlanta
Fishtown - Philly
The Annex - Toronto (Sounds badass)
Gas town - Vancouver
Hell's Kitchen - NYC

I've always liked the name, Terwillegar. It's a neighbourhood in the south side of Edmonton, I believe the name has native roots. The name is original and surprisingly easy to pronounce.

There is another neighbourhood in Edmonton called "The Hamptons" I never understood that name, what is a Hampton?

ha good question.

i know its used for a group of neighboring places with -hampton in it in both ny state and in england.

i found this explanation too:
The name Hampton may come from the Anglo-Saxon words hamm meaning an enclosure in the bend of a river and ton meaning farmstead or settlement.

"Liberty Village" is fun - the name was given ironically for the couple of prisons that used to be there. Of course, now the neighbourhood is just a shitty condo-ville.

There aren't a lot of neighborhoods in Phoenix with strong name recognition, but some I like:

Willo
Arcadia--sucker for random use of Greek place names
Coronado
Camelback East--we forget because Camelback mountain is such a prominent feature in the city but it really is a cool name

Definitely Back of the Yards. A couple of those aren’t real neighborhood names either.

SoHo - NY - is like, the coolest name ever, totally. It's so cool that dozens of other cities will attempt to copy and capture that urban edginess factor.

It'll be a great marketing tool for civic leaders to attract hip, young cool transplants to a specific area in the central city. There will probably be a craft beer pub there and an urban outfitters and maybe a new/retro barber shop to trim your overgrown beard, that'll serve you an ice cold IPA while you get your fade and part lined up.
