Thanks as always to NYGUY for posting all the great pictures.
This is another one climbing fast. I watched them hoisting a huge piece of steel towards the top the other day, and just wanted to stand there and watch the whole thing get put together. But it's definitely giving off a tall vibe.

Regarding that penumtimate drawing, I do understand that in comparing the left tower's base with Citicorp, there are completely different engineering and structural implementations involved.

But seeing the lack of columns/pillars at the corners still does leaveme a bit unsettled.

unsettled. good way to put it. yeah, definately.

i kind of like that though.

it brings nice variety to the base of at least one of the new hy buildings.

the only other big new tower base i have even taken any notice of is one vanderbilt. i like that one a lot as its so well thought out. this one is just more of an interesting design choice. maybe they want the employees slightly rattled and on their toes as they walk in.

More to come for the area. Those parcels near the Silver Towers are ripe for redevelopment. This area will be seeing cranes for a while until a lot of the cruddy low rises are swooped up.

The glass here isn't really blue. It's more of a silverish, metalic color.

The bases of 1 and 2 MW would be more impressive if they didn't have that extra protruding retail section. I don't know how I would have reconfigured retail section but it makes the "floating tower" thing they have going work a bit less effectuvely.

I like the retail component in the sense that it makes the complex/plaza seem more inviting and pedestrian friendly. Standalone towers on that plot would come off as cold. I think the developers are attempting in part to create a community of sorts.

They're trying not to repeat the mistakes of the original WTC, while at the same time fulfilling one of the Hudson Yards directives. The retail portion really won't be visible from the streets, so I don't see it having an impact on the appearance of the bases.

It's nicely shown in this clip:

I would love to see the Highlight connect to Manhattan West 5 at the corner of 31st and 10th.

I think a lot of that will have to do with what goes on at the 360 10th Avenue site, the supertall SHoP is designing. Manhattan West has it's own "High-Line like" corridor, so a virtual connection would make sense...

for a $3B project on that key, but eerily quiet, site that would be a good idea.

That was a previous version of a tower planned there. They won't build they type of tower they are planning on that site until the Hudson Yards is more than the construction zone that it is. But it would make sense to tie everything in together even more for the pedestrian flow.
