I can't wait until someone buys the IHOP property. It's such an eyesore.

Yeah, I know... would be nice if they also got rid of that parking lot too. But that's not happening anytime soon.

That makes me think maybe Fairmont's backside will be toward Cesar Chavez because they know something will be built in that lot across from them eventually.

IHOP is always busy. The two we go to in South Austin are always packed on weekends.

I eat breakfast at that IHOP quite often. It's not exciting or an Austin original, (Although the crowd that eats there is) but they do make a good breakfast. With that said, I could easily find another breakfast spot in exchange for an awesome high rise at that location towering over I35. It would pair up nicely with the Fairmont.

Things will be great when you're downtown.

Or why not have IHOP open up a location in downtown, but in a mid rise building location? That way they don't have to take up so much space, but also won't have to leave downtown and still benefit from the business. It would look a lot more urban too.

I love the ihop and it clearly gets good business but a more urban one would be cool

Austin Skyhouse and the waterfront from the roof of One Congress Plaza. This was on Scott Fisher's Facebook page.

The building should be slightly below the top of the crane.

They've got a drilling rig back on site. The parking garage pilings should be going in ASAP.

They're working on the 21st floor currently. They'll be topped out soon.

DiamondBack Hoist and Rigging is on site tonight, raising the tower crane by two segments (As best as I could count).

Isn't it unusual to be adding segments late in the game, unless a brace from the crane to the building was needed?

I know from engineering that the 'slenderness ratio' is important to prevent buckling under a given load. So another possible reason would be that while the crane is lower they can lift heavier loads. Once they just 'have' to raise it, they lift lighter loads and work a little slower?

I don't think the height of the tower crane shaft has anything to do with how much weight it can lift, but I might be wrong about that. I would assume all of the support is in the boom suspension cables and counter weights.

If they're jumping the crane by two sections that'll be another 40 feet tall, since each section is 20 feet each. I was thinking recently they would probably have to raise the crane a little to accommodate the mechanical penthouse structure.

I was out at the Travis County Expo Center today, so I had a nice view of the skyline. I took some photos today and will tomorrow also.

I checked out the east side of the building today, and they did in fact install a building brace up on the 21st floor or so, before they raised the crane. It's pretty tall!

I'm thinking the crown of the building is the reason for that.
