Will Berlin Out-Innovate Silicon Valley?
Forbes

Quote:
The latest high-tech buzz out of Europe has Berlin emerging as the next Silicon Valley. Attracted by Berlin’s relatively cheap office space and affordable lifestyle, entrepreneurs from around the world are settling in and cranking out innovations including big data, cloud, e-commerce, and business-to-consumer solutions. Some experts say Berlin’s diverse startup community has a unique blend of creative talent well-aligned to the next generation of technology that focuses on people first.

Berlin is one of the most amazing cities on earth, but seriously.... why is this thread still going? We are all aware of it at this point. Can anyone just start a booster thread like this in here and keep it going for ever?

An Israeli Venture Capitalist´s love letter to Berlin
Blog

Quote:
Europe is experiencing an explosion of entrepreneurial energy. It’s happening in London, Dublin, Stockholm, Paris, Barcelona, and everywhere else. I’ve written previously that Europe’s tech resurgence is highly distributed across the continent - and that’s still true. But the energy in Berlin is palpable, and I love it. When people ask me what I think of Berlin’s startup scene, the answer is simple: Berlin has the best chance of any European city of becoming a truly global startup hub.

Two Cities, Two Europes
National Geographic

Quote:
The Teutonic capital buzzes with the surge of postcommunist freedom, thriving on its reputation as the turbulent dance capital of Europe

&

Berlin, loose, post-authoritarian, the most open and absorbent of European cities, troubled, if at all, only by the problems of success—and almost careless about what the future might bring.

&

“In Berlin,” the poet and journalist Kostas Kanavouris said to me through the cigarette smoke as we sat talking in an Athens café, “everyone thinks they are a Berliner—whoever they are, wherever they have come from, however long they have been there.

The world's most hipster destinations
Stuff.co.nz (New Zealand)

Quote:
Berlin is cool because it doesn't even appear to be trying. And yet it's still the coolest place you've ever been.

Every disused warehouse has been turned into a music venue or an indie art gallery.

Every spare building wall seems to be covered in high-quality street art. There are clubs and venues catering to every fetish and whim.

The politics are progressive, the food is cosmopolitan, and the fashion is on point. Hence the influx of tourists who want to be cool by association.

More cities aim to establish start-up clusters
Financial Times

Quote:
Successful clusters tend to be in attractive cities.
“There is at this moment no more vibrant metropole in the world with a better life standard in quality and price than Berlin,”
says Lenard Krawinkel, founder and chief executive of Zoobe, developer of an animated mobile phone messaging app.

Gosh, even the Germans are doing things like that, now... I'm starting to think the French should release such lists too.
So how about

#1 Lyon, France
#2 Toulouse, France
#3 Nantes, France
#4 Rennes, France
#5 Montpellier, France
#6 Grenoble, France
#7 Marseille, France
...
#70 Berlin, Germany
...
#80 NYC, NY, USA
...
#99 London, UK

And Paris not even ranked, cause it's lone in a superior league of its own anyway.

ludicrous, but it sounds fair to me. Who knows? It might work to flocks of naive sheep.
Bah, that's a joke, hardly trolling.

Third Creative Industries Report

Quote:
Berlin inspires. Now, where around twenty-five years ago the Berlin Wall still stood, there are trendy, vibrant neighbourhoods. Not only has the city master- fully handled reunification, it has also evolved into a culturally diverse, tolerant, and cosmopolitan metropolis attracting young talent and creative sector work- ers from around the world. Today, creativity is one of Berlin’s key distinguishing features. The city has become a hotspot for the creative scene — from art, fash- ion and design to film, music, theatre, media and games.

But creativity is more than just a Berlin feeling for life. Creativity is also the city’s perspective to the future. On the whole, Berlin’s economy is healthier than it has been for many years. New jobs are being created, the jobless rate is falling, and the economy is recording a stable trend to growth. In addition to the impe- tus from an innovative industrial sector, this trend is driven by art, culture and creativity, its main assets. And Berlin still has lots of free spaces and room to grow—for example, in dynamic locations with a vast potential to be formed and shaped. Or in neighbourhoods and hip districts that are also attractive res- idential areas. Or through its robust networks, vibrant creative landscape and outstanding structures in research and science.

Berlin’s reputation is attracting growing numbers of people here. The city’s pop- ulation is increasing by several tens of thousands every year—a development indicative of Berlin’s appeal and the opportunities it has to offer. The city is pleas- ant to live in, and consistently records high scores in international rankings for life quality, affordable rents and lower living costs. The new arrivals in Berlin bring fresh ideas, enriching the entire city — only too evident, for example, in the city’s dynamic start-up scene which has made Berlin Germany’s »start-up capital«.

This is how Berlin is changing — and continuing to grow. This development is driven by a mix of attractiveness, an influx of new ideas and a proactive power to innovate which has long resonated far beyond the cultural and creative indus- tries. Thanks to the right balance between economic growth and cosmopolitan outlook, a creative climate and free spaces for creative workers, entrepreneurs and talents from around the world, Berlin will also continue to take its place among the leading locations for the creative industries in the years to come.
