I also like how the derby would fix nicely on the dome. I have a pretty vivid imagination.

Not absolutely positively sure about this, but I seem to remember seeing a slightly different angle of the area during this same time period and the sign is for The Ambassador Hotel Pump Room.
Also, Victor Hugo's Restaurant was at 235 N. Beverly, so that could be the explanation for the curious sign.
