Today's departure count: 10 - it hasn't been that low in a long time.

As an aside, some days until the WS schedule change have only 2 YYZ departures. 3x will be the norm as of 03NOV20, down from 4x last month and August.

What is the current state of the airport renovations / improvements with the security and concessions? And also the ALT hotel being constructed (was scheduled to open in 2021 if I remember correctly).

I haven't been to the airport in over a year so I really don't know where things stand, but hoping that the hotel has already started so that doesn't get delayed or cancelled with the new reality of COVID

To my knowledge...

The new security is now operational (as of a ~ month ago)

The concession area is on hold indefinitely and same with the hotel. (Hotels are not doing well during COVID). I know the Fairfield Airport Hotel was closed for a while when COVID first hit back in March.

Based on what I saw this week:
  • As MountainView said, CATSA Plus is operational on Level 3 and the old screening equipment is being disassembled on Level 2.
  • Relay, Tim Hortons, and Subway are open in the reconfigured pre-security concessions area on Level 3.
  • Construction hoarding is up in the post-security concessions area on Level 2, under the new CATSA area. I wasn't sure whether work was underway.

Dominion... I read your posts daily but don't always comment...

Thanks for posting the departure counts. It will be good for record keeping when we look back in 5 years when we are back to 70+ departures per day and wonder what 11 departures used to feel like.

At least we are seeing the A321 on a daily YYZ 50% of the week.

I think November will be weak but hopefully we see some more movement in December. I doubt the current AC schedule for December sticks... but if it does, it will be nice to see some trans-border routes start again. And hopefully the Maple Leaf Lounge opens again (extremely doubtful but I can hope!)

Hey thanks. Glad that they’re being enjoyed. I’ve managed to get most days posted since April. Speaking of which, today’s departure count was 12...hard to believe that at 1845 on a weekday afternoon I’m saying “was”. Last departure today was at 1800. Good to know about the 321. Is YVR all 320 now?

If 1/2 of AC’s planed increase for December sticks, that would be something. I think CUN, FLL and MCO operating at least weekly are probably the best odds of happening. 3x weekly is what they’re all loaded as. I have my doubts about DCA. Domestically YWG and YEG coming back I think will happen. More YHZ than 1x I’m doubtful. Maybe YQB comes back if it’s well timed for some western connections?

It seems like the last YYZ arrival of the day, and therefore the first departure of the day is either a 320 or 321 which when its the 321 is nice to see!

YVR is still a mix of 319/320 but mostly 320. I have seen them be double daily 319 on the weekends.

I too hope that YWG and YEG come back... I don't have much hope for YQB but with WestJet pulling out maybe AC see's something that we don't.

I also think we will see some sun flying. I worry about the quarantining that is required upon return, but I know some people will plan for that and will just want to get away. I still have friends talking about going on cruises this winter.

DCA is interesting...as it is obviously Capital to Capitol... but the government has been doing a lot of digital meetings now...but perhaps with an election and Government change the flight could work. It's also extremely cheap right now... even booking something for in the Spring is $220 RT !

@MountainView: yeah I believe it’s just Sundays with the double YVR.

Anyone know how many non-Jetz 319s are still active with AC? They said back in May that the 319s were to be retired along with the 763s and premature by several months parking of the E90s and DH1s.

Today’s departure count: only 9! I’m guessing June was the last time it was in single digits.

Also, how’s this for weird: there’s 3 flights a day to YUL at 1145, 1510 and 1700. Today between 1145 and 1700, those are the only 3 flights departing.

Today’s departure count: 15 including no 2nd YVR and the last WS YHZ departure until who knows when.

Are these departure counts strictly for passenger planes (ie. not Cargo or Private)?

Correct. Strictly sked pax flights departing from the terminal.

Today's count was 14...'was' as even though it's only 1713, the last departure for the day was at 1700. Pretty incredible given how 1700 was normally the start of the afternoon/evening peak.

On the flip side, looking at the arrivals FIDS for the rest of the day there are six more arrivals = to the number of RONs tonight = 6/26 gates = 23% occupancy compared with closer to 85% way back when.
