New photos are up on the official website gallery. These are of the US Port of Entry progress. It is mostly a giant sandbox right now, so I'm not going to bother posting them here, but if you want to take a look, here's the link (you can really get a a sense of the scale of this thing, once it starts to take off).

US side progress photos, uploaded January 28 (though they can't all be from the same day, based on ground cover and tree foliage) -

New gallery photos were posted April 07, showing progress on the Canadian Port of Entry side. Still mostly moving dirt around, but there is some foundation progress on what I think is the Energy & Maintenance Building -

Canadian side, from last week. The tower crane on this side is ~ 240 ft. (73 m) high now. It will eventually reach 760 ft. (232 m). You can see the US-side in the far distance -

Awesome shot!

The towers are going properly skyward now and a special bonus of not one, not two, but THREE freighters in the river!

It's a great shot, whoever took it.

TBH, I'm surprised this project isn't generating more discussion here on SSP. I know the Transportation section is less frequented. Maybe when things are further along folks will notice. These main span towers will eventually eclipse the height of the Renaissance Center!

^ the taller those towers climb, the more people will start noticing. We're finally at the fun part of construction!

But yeah, the transpo sub-forum is a little red-headed stepchildy.

Not a lot of nice visuals until now, it’s mostly just been dirt pushing. As the towers get taller a lot more people are going to start noticing, this is the largest bridge getting built on the continent right now I believe and in the top 4 of the last few decades (what’s larger, Zappan Tee, Bay Bridge, Champlain? Anything else?). Probably the largest actual new bridge (not a replacement) in Canada and the US in a generation.

I can’t wait to drive over it in a few years, that is for sure! Just gotta drive the 3 hours haha, make a weekend trip to Detroit.

going by the length of the main span (which is how big span bridges are most frequently compared against one another), this bridge easily has the longest span U/C in the US/Canada at the moment, and is tied with the tacoma narrows #2 bridge for the longest span built in the US/Canada since 1964!!!

and it will be, BY FAR, the longest cable stayed bridge ever built in this part of the world (the current longest cable stayed span in the US/Canada is the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in Charleston with a main span of 1,546 ft.)

(*) Gordie Howe is the only cable-stayed bridge on the list, the rest are all suspension bridges.

Dwight Duncan - Chair of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) Board of Directors - announced he will be stepping down at the end of his term, later this year. No reason(s) given as to why in his May 31, 2021 official statement.
