Yes, there were 5 sections on the ground at the base waiting to be put in.

On the drive into work today, I could see the crane from the I-20/59 / Expressway interchange. Pretty imposing on the surrounding buildings.

Box Row sign is still up on the site, as well as the phone number to contact for leasing opportunities... so who knows.

Can't give details on how I know, but the wheels are turning on 20 Midtown. There's a lot that goes into pre-construction, as I'm sure everyone knows.

Whole Foods 2 is finally open! Time to remodel it.

Also, I am amazed at the frenetic pace in which the hill is being cut down for the new center coming up on 150/459.

The BBJ did a story about this a while back, but support has quieted down about it lately. Just checked the rankings, and while Birmingham was in 1st when the story broke, we've fallen behind.

Anyways, the Alabama Theatre is on a campaign to bring back the second vertical "ALABAMA" sign that used to be on 18th St N side of the theater. Here's the link to BBJ's story LINK

You can also go straight to the site with this LINK.

You can place 5 votes, once every day. So.. get to voting!

I'm so ready for Woodfin to take office so that all this sabre rattling going on about the BJCC peoject can come to a head or be put to bed...if that is indeed what is holding things up.

After years of regretting the conduct of Birmingham's government, I actually think that we're on the right track. I was a afraid of a shake up, but I think that the election worked out. I believe Valerie Abbott will be an excellent council president, I'm glad that Jonathan Austin's grip on control is over.

Previously, there was an extraordinary lack of communication and cooperation between the mayor's office and the city council, and I think we're finally going to see some synergy. I'm happy to read that Mayor Woodfin is optimistic about the possibilities of the BJCC and that he really wants to fix public transit. The city's bus system already seems to be on the right track, and I hope that the mayor and council will work to make the improvements more effective.

It's all a breath of fresh air, honestly.

seems odd that this alley wouldn't have already been vacated. explains the holdup, though:

What's the latest on the next phase of 20 Midtown?

The article did not come through, but the problem all along was the alley?
Very odd! probably a clerical error.

It is a clerical issue. I work for one of the utilities in Birmingham, and the fact that the developer is requesting the vacation of the "alley" means that they are moving more quickly now.

My department does receive requests for vacations of ROW (the alley), it's one of the last things needed before construction.
