Sketchup runs pretty well on a Mac. It's super fast (as of now, my file is at 6 mb), but at times, it can produce those sketch-up "bugs".

Here is the first small "update, or "preview" of Midland 3.0! This is showing you the street detail of Midland, which I am very excited about. Of course, I'm not finished with the street detail yet, so bare with me! I am also planning to include more low rises into the skyline, and more low rises in the downtown. The city core, and the downtown area will also be much larger than the two previous versions.

The street level detail helps alot in making this city feel alive! I especially like this last shot, very promising! I suggest you check the scaling of the first story texture of the second building from the right: compared to the people in the scene it looks like the door is one meter tall or something. People will have to crawl to get in

Thanks!

yeah, I'll have to fix that.

Anyways, you are looking at the Eastside Provincial Hotel- the highest rated hotel in Midland. Unfortunately, their high standards is people mediocre standards.

Looks like I'll have to replace the trees.

I like it, but that hotel is really covered by shadow! You do have a lot of detail, especially the vehicles. Their So Shiny!!!

Thanks! Yeah, the trees are like that because they can't go through the renderer. I'll have to fix it.

Also, it's shadowed that much because of the setting I put it on.

I like the shape of the hotel, nice design. What time of day is it in the scene? Do the hotel guest ever get any sun in their windows?

Good job Flamesrule, your city building skills are improving all the time, especially texture implementation. Epic shadow indeed, must be early evening time of day?

The time of the scene is in the early evening of the day. The hotel guests definitely get sunlight in the back part of the hotel, but near the street, not so much.

Thanks! Yeah, it is the early part of the evening.

ANYWAYS. Last update until Saturday!

This high-rise is on the same block as the Eastside Provincial Hotel. It's called the MidTime Corporate Financial Building. It was built doing the late early 2000's, so it is one of Midland's newer 'scrapers.'

Looking at the back of the block.

Some new high-rises and low rises you haven't seen yet. This is looking at the back of United Downtown Midland Center, and looking straight at Datsyun Corporatee Housing (front) and Datsyun CorporateWest.

Looking at the United Downtown Midland. Completed in 04.

Updated skyline of Midland.

Pretty fantastic.

I would suggest you put in more different things than textured boxes. Think bridges and stadiums.

Thanks! I'm actually adding a river into the city- when I get to that part of the city. As of now, I'm still working on the downtown. I should finish the downtown within a few weeks or so.

Anyways, this will be the last update for a week or so, as I'll be away for a week.

Looking at the skyline from the west.

This city also has an nice mix of highrises and lowrises and that results in an eye-pleasing skyline. It looks like the highrises are mostly post-modern designs (really nice designs btw.) and lowrises are mostly historical, so maybe you could mix it up a little and add a couple of pre-war highrises into the mix.

Thanks! There are actually two pre-WWII skyscrapers in the skyline, but you're right, I'll have to add more modern low rises and add more older buildings into the skyline.

My next update will probably be sometime next week, as I have to model new buildings!
