I suppose this site is going to look like this for quite a while as they do the digging. (this is from last weekend)

^^I'm unclear on how much and what digging is going on below ground at this site. Some may recall that "foundation work" was already done at the site:

Quote:
All that's been done is the excavation for a $43 million parking garage and foundation work for the unfunded structures (that is, the Mexican Museum).
http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/C...an-2775759.php

as can be seen here:

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/C...an-2775759.php

but that was when the Mexican Museum was to be a much shorter Ricardo Legoretta design:

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/M...me-3229566.php

So I assume whatever work was completed will have to be extensively modified including caisson work to support a 500 ft structure.

Plus, Millennium Partners has now committed to take the caissons down to bedrock.

from a distance, not much change in the last month or so

closer also looks about the same (except for SF Tower in the distance)

peering through the fence from the plaza side, I didn't see any deep excavation (yet?)

^^You may never see the kind of hole we usually see. Remember that the foundations for the Mexican Museum (presumably the abandoned Legoretta design) were already dug here in conjunction with the parking garage on the site. As I've said above, I don't really understand what they planned to do after shifting from the about 5 floor Legoretta building to the tower now planned but they may be digging inside the parking garage or somewhere unseen. It's just not the typical situation since there's already been some work done.

... but here is a look at some digging on the plaza-facing side

ha, this angle mostly charts progress of SF Tower, since nothing visibly changes with 706 Mission!

I hope it's that they're creating a stable surface on which the heavy machinery can drill caissons, but who knows.

It's interesting how they construct caissons all the way up to grade, then demolish the top 60 feet of them when they excavate.

I was curious about this, and after some googling, found this very detailed project schedule from Webcor.

The most recent tasks on the schedule for June/July are:

Quote:
Backfill Bsmt to Street Level Slab and Demo
Mobilize for Drilled Shaft Install
And then from July through late October:

Quote:
Install 32 EACH Drilled Shafts (2 per week)
So, it's all part of the plan to begin 16 weeks of drilling.

In case that link goes down, the other highlights are:
  • Excavation: November 2017 to April 2018
  • Crane goes up: April 2018
  • Mat pour: June 2018
  • Rebar above ground: October 2018
  • Level 48 concrete pour: August 2019
  • Level 48 curtain wall: October 2019
  • Crane dismantled: December 2019
  • Certificate of occupancy: June 2020

This is very much appreciated--thanks! It's painfully obvious that more patience is called for here.

eh, so Nelson Rockefeller's big donation that is the core of the Mexican Museum's collection turns out to be mostly fakes....
