That’s good news! Hopefully these routes stick and do well. ABIA posted a new construction update with a video about the extension: http://www.austintexas.gov/blogs/con...ruction-update

I would very much not count on Via lasting in Austin. They are flying once a day on very thin routes, with planes with fairly high per-passenger fuel costs.

This is not a successful formula for an air carrier.

Yea, ever since I heard about Via, I had my doubts. It's whole operation is strange and it's hard to tell what their long term goal really is.

Their "goal" is to be your go-to regional airline.

Does that model work anymore? Don't know. Does it work better on the east coast than in middle america? Maybe so. We shall see.

Just to provide a quick snapshot given by the pilots today:
Via on Tulsa route said low count but increasing every day.
Norwegian load factor 80%.
British airways load factor 75%.

75% on a 744 is not bad at all, considering that a completely full 789 carries 72% of the load on BA’s lowest capacity 744.

It's just funny that a company who is based in Florida would claim Austin's hometown airline unless they plan to move their corporate HQ here.

75 to 80% not bad. In my airline game, it is a good load factor lol.

Quick update on the gate renumbering...it should be done in four phases according to the current plans:

Phase 1 - early August - Gates 21-25 become NEW Gates 30-34 (i.e. NO Gates 21-29)
Phase 2 - mid- to late-August - Gates 16-20 become NEW Gates 25-29 (i.e. NO Gates 16-24)
Phase 3 - September - Gates 10-15 become NEW Gates 19-24 (i.e. NO Gates 10-18)
Phase 4 - September - Gates 1 & 5-9 become NEW Gates 13-18

Um, what happened to gates 1-12? Are they (not so) sneakily trying to tell us to expect a 12 gate expansion?

9 of the 1-12 are associated with the nine gate expansion...at least. That doesn't open till 2019.

Just dropping by to offer some tidbits from the alternative terminal options for the master plan. 😊

Short term garage gone with terminal expanding north.
Skybridge similar to Denver connecting the south portion of terminal.
Runway 17C.
New FAA tower because of taxiway/terminal proximity.

Have a nice weekend.

Thanks for the stupid check on that one, I thought the 12 gate expansion was rolled into previously mentioned renumbering...

Curious...new FAA Tower? Is there talk of it being any taller?

Supposedly the process for getting a new tower has already been started. One of the issues identified with the current tower is that it's too short. It would have to be taller.

The skybridge connecting the terminals would allow 2 B737s to pass side by side underneath or a single B787 or larger to pass underneath. A gate in the middle (10 maybe?) would go away to allow the bridge. The southern terminal would extend a little to the West but can't extend to be a mirror image of the current terminal because of the de ice facility and new taxiways that would pass south and west of the de ice facility. The terminal would extend West almost to taxiway Charlie. Also, there would finally be a ramp control.

Why do I seldom see incoming aircraft fly over my house anymore...just northwest of 45 and 130 in Round Rock?

Optimized profile descent (OPD) arrivals. Around 2014 we got these arrivals that allowed aircraft to descend all the way down to 4 thousand feet without control instructions but there were some issues with how they were built. We would typically break them off of the arrival to fly over the Round Rock area for sequencing. The arrivals were fixed last December so now there aren't nearly as many aircraft that have to be vectored over Round Rock.
