Swim/sunwear retailer dives into Commerce Place

EDMONTON - Designer swim and sunwear retailer Offshores is moving to Commerce Place.

The locally owned shop will move from its current location at 10221 109th St. on Dec. 14.

The new shop will offer underground, heated parking and be closer for many customers who work downtown, said co-owner Dorothy Kozina.

The store will feature a new look to better showcase its collections. “We’re changing our concept a little bit and going to that Miami, Vegas stark white type of a store,” Kozina said.

“We’re also expanding into men’s.”

Offshores, which started five years ago, carries designer mix-and-match pieces.

“They’re perfect for any body fit,” she said. “If you’re a large top and a small bottom, or vice versa, you can do that, which is great. A lot of other stores don’t do that.”

^ Bad news, there's now some unsightly Gem Oro signage near the east entrance of Commerce Place.

^ I think Gem Oro's a great addition downtown - and the space isn't finished yet. Are they going to have 101st St access?

Offshores is now open in Commerce Place.
There's some other interior work being done from the streetside in the space north of LUX.

Doh.

I was hoping Mr. what's his name might bring back his 20 storey tower idea there.

So ripe for a mixed use.

Sounds like 104st is getting a cheese store in the basement of the Philips

Callebaut owner to open flagship chocolaterie in Edmonton

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/life/...643/story.html

Quote:
EDMONTON - Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut is opening a new-concept store on the corner of 124th Street and Jasper Avenue.

More than a year after the chocolate company went into receivership under its namesake founder, Bernard Callebaut, new co-owner Mike Freeland is broadening the product line from its traditional chocolates to gelato, coffee and desserts.

The Edmonton location is to be a high-profile flagship store.

Freeland, who is the company’s Edmonton dealer, its co-owner and director, has signed a lease to move into what is now the McElheran’s Fine Furniture clearance centre. McElheran’s main store, just north on 124th Street, remains open.

McElheran’s owner Jeff McElheran said he is closing the clearance centre because the retailer has expanded its main showroom, allowing an on-site clearance centre.

Freeland takes possession of the 2,720-square-foot space Feb. 1 and plans to complete a $400,000 transformation into a store and café offering gelato, coffee, pastries and chocolate by April.

“What do I like about the new place? Basically everything,” Freeland said. “Great visibility, great parking, great neighbourhood and lots of space to do things right.”

The existing Bernard Callebaut shop across from Mountain Equipment Co-op, just north of the new location, will eventually close, as will the gelato shop next door, also owned by Freeland.

He says the new location is roomy and he will add outdoor seating.

Speaking of the Hardware Grill, word is that that it will be closing. Their lease is coming up for renewal and it won't be renewed at their option. l heard this from a reliable source, but maybe someone else can confirm.

Whole Foods on Jasper Ave, anyone? Anyone?

http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/201...g-to-edmonton/

Where could they open, I wonder?

Here are their specs:
http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company/realestate.php

Quote:
If you have a retail location you think would make a good site for Whole Foods Market, Inc., please review the following guidelines carefully for consideration:
* 200,000 people or more in a 20-minute drive time
* 25,000-50,000 Square Feet
* Large number of college-educated residents
* Abundant parking available for our exclusive use
* Stand alone preferred, would consider complementary
* Easy access from roadways, lighted intersection
* Excellent visibility, directly off of the street
* Must be located in a high traffic area (foot and/or vehicle)
