New York YIMBY:

Construction Update: 547 Tenth Avenue
BY: NIKOLAI FEDAK ON MAY 1ST 2014 AT 6:00 AM

Quote:
[...]

547 Tenth Avenue will eventually stand 52 stories tall, but what’s not shown in the renderings is the project’s cantilever; the tower will extend outwards over its western neighbor, the Church of Saints Cyril & Methodius and St. Raphael. The actual church will be fine, as the rectory is the portion that will be underneath the new building.

While cantilevers can be controversial, the lot adjacent to the church has been sitting vacant for years, and the Remedial Action Work Plan for 547 Tenth Avenue details the efforts Extell has had to go through to clean up the site; the plan also has all the specifics regarding the protrusion, which starts on the skyscraper’s eleventh floor, 170 feet above street level.

The Office of Environmental Remediation has the FAR breakdown for 547 Tenth Avenue, which had previously been unknown; DOB filings for the site are confusing, given permits for the 52-story tower instead describe a mystical 22-story building. Ignoring the seemingly mis-matched information, the development will have 380,000 square feet of market-rate housing, 95,000 square feet of ‘inclusionary’ housing, 93,000 square feet dedicated to community facilities, and 6,600 square feet of ground-floor retail.

547 Tenth Avenue will have 600 units in total, and completion is expected in June of 2016.

This is going to be overshadowed by Silverstein's tower...

Slight thread topic deviation; but apropos as per the above-mentioned supertall proposal:

I have to say this; but......
....Another MF box? Really, Larry? Or is this a massing model with some hitherto-unfinalized façade slapped on?

It seems like this is very early in the design phase. A lot can happen between now and when it actually starts to rise.

Extell's 52-Story Tenth Ave. Tower to Have Dorm, 600 Rentals

Wednesday, August 13, 2014, by Zoe Rosenberg
Quote:
New details have emerged for Extell's 52-story tower coming to 41st Street and Tenth Avenue. The in-construction development at 555 Tenth Avenue will bring a 300-bed student dormitory to floors two through seven, and 600 rental apartments—120 of which will be affordable—to its tower, Commercial Observer reports. Students will enter through a door on 41st Street and residents will use an entrance on Tenth Avenue. The dorm, a first for Extell, satisfies the community facility component of the large building.

Renters (not students, lest this is the most lavish dorm in the city) will have access to the building's amenities, which will include a bowling alley, game room, kid's lounge, and dog-washing area in the basement, a ninth floor lap pool, yoga studio, outdoor workout area, outdoor lounge space, and dog run, and a rooftop with pool, cabanas, birch grove, indoor/outdoor fireplace, club room, and dining area. Extell is still courting colleges and universities for the SHoP-designed site, which will be complete in 18 to 24 months. The development company spent $16.46 million on development and air rights acquired from nearby St. Raphael's Church; the lot is on a 99-year lease to the developers from the estate of Sol Goldman.

^ The church is in the render, just to the right of the tower. It's not going anywhere.
