Red face TORONTO | West Block 1928 | 429 + 393 FT | 41 + 39 FLOORS

Address: 500 Lakeshore Blvd West
Developer: Loblaw Companies
Architect: ArchitectsAlliance

Development entails keeping the heritage building and building an 8 storey office component on top which will house the Loblaws HQ. Behind will be the 37 and 41 storey residential towers.

However, the new addition atop the historic building completely ruins the latter. They could have done much better.

I trust that the rendering is just an example of size of what will be added on top of the heritage building. Because in that image the addition is butt ugly, like a corrugated iron shed dumped on top. The building deserves better. I would like to see masonery added for this portion.

As for the balconies, it's a different twist on the usual play with balconies we've seen in recent proposals. I actually like this design, which is against the norm for my typical tastes.

What's not shown on the renders is that those large signs on top of the existing building are remaining there after construction

I like all of it so far. I usually find Aa boring, but it's the perfect design for this site. Love the balcony treatment as well.
