I noticed it the other day for the first time from the HEB parking lot at South First Street and William Cannon Drive. It's going to stick up big time from that spot. You can already see 360 straight down South First and The Independent will also appear in the middle of the street. The W Hotel, One American Center, Ashton, Colorado Tower, Frost Bank Tower, The Austonian all show up along there, along with the South Austin Medical Center tower. Even the spire on the Fairmont is visible from a few spots around there at night. I also saw the top of a crane in front of 360 for either Third + Shoal or Austin Proper. Those two should show up there also if the cranes are.

Another nice (but fleeting) view showing the scale of this tower is from Riverside as you come down the hill by Joe's Crab Shack.

I'm fairly certain that I'll be able to see the Independent from the street in front of my house, at least the crown at any rate, maybe a couple of the upper floors as well. Before they put up that stupid billboard along Ben White, I used to be able to see Dobie Center and the UT tower crown. I can see the crane pop up above it when I head up towards Redd. They will have to raise it higher before too long so if I can see the crane from here, then I think the top will be visible.

I would hope that billboards will one day become obsolete.

You guys ought to see the billboards along highways in China. They're so big, often times literally going across both directions of traffic. If they have regulations, I can't imagine that they're followed. It's insane. I hate billboards in Texas just as much as most folks, but relatively speaking, they're not as bad as here. That said, it's like comparing one disease to another...both are horrible.

Back to the Independent. I was wondering - did we ever determine if they're going to utilize the space on top of the podium next to the tower for anything? I forgot.

That reminds me, I need to go to my chiropractor for a back adjustment.

Seriously, when is the scheduled opening date?

Its astonishing to me that as tall as this thing already is, there's still 22 floors to go plus the crown.

I noticed today, this tower will dominate going south on Burnet from the Domain / Top Golf area! The construction crane can now be seen from that area.

The shifts will be a lot more obvious when the safety nets aren't there anymore. Either way, it's cool to watch this thing grow.
