I didn't even know this tower was proposed. Seems okay I guess. Hopefully when all these generic condos achieve a sizeable working population, Miami could start building some iconic office buildings or at least something with a design that is different from the constant style chosen today.

That really isn't how it works. Jobs lead to permanent residents. I would imagine most of these condos are vacation homes.

Redesigned tower with 821 residential units and 128 hotel units plus over 82,000 square feet of retail and almost 40,000 square feet of office space. The FAA cut the tower from 849 to 830 feet above sea level leaving a final height of 822 feet above the street.

Wow! I don't really remember where the old parking garage is. I haven't touch yet.

Tallest Miami Tower Due In 2016

Quote:
All plans are go to raise the bar for Miami’s skyline, veteran Miami developer Tibor Hollo says about his Panorama Tower project on Brickell Avenue.

In the latter years of his long and storied career, Mr. Hollo is dreaming bigger than ever for Miami: Panorama at 1101 Brickell Ave. is planned to be 830 feet tall — which would make it the tallest building in Miami and in Florida.

The 85-floor structure will have 941 rental apartments, 300,000 square feet of office space and 100,000 square feet of ground-level retail, Mr. Hollo said Tuesday in an interview with Miami Today. Overall, he added, the project will encompass about 3 million square feet of floor space.

Mr. Hollo, Panorama’s developer and owner, said his high-rise dream is well on its way to becoming a reality, as some preliminary construction has been completed to set the stage for vertical construction of the tower.

He said the project is scheduled for completion 33 months from now, which would put the opening in January 2016. He said he plans to start marketing the tower to tenants in about 15 months, or in summer 2014.

He said construction of a three-story utility building on the site is complete, and Florida Power & Light Co. is preparing to occupy the building. The building is to be used to provide power for the site. Utilities are being diverted to the site and a street crossing soon will be created, Mr. Hollo added.

Construction at the site, between Brickell Avenue and Brickell Bay Drive, started last year. Eventually, a parking garage there is to be demolished to make room for Panorama.

Mr. Hollo said this is a landmark project for him and the city.

"I’m about thrilled about it and what it does for the city," he said. "It’s an iconic project. It’s global landmark that will catapult the city to a different level."

That level will be about 41 feet above the Four Seasons Hotel & Tower, also on Brickell Avenue, which has Miami’s and Florida’s tallest building for the past 10 years.

Does a height cut of only 19 feet really matter, if so why? Obviously it does as the FAA wouldn't really meddle with private businesses otherwise, right?

When Does a Tower
Become the Signature of a City?

To be the tallest residential building on the eastern seaboard south of New York, Panorama Tower will rise 82 stories over the Miami skyline, as an iconic, global landmark. The mixed-use residential development will be situated on the largest parcel of property in the epicenter of Brickell Avenue, with a depth of 500 feet to Brickell Bay Drive. In total, the existing office towers and new building will represent approximately three million square feet of construction on the site.
The spectacular, 82-story tower will rise to 849 feet, with an observation deck at the 830-foot level. The 19-story pedestal will contain over 100,000 square feet of medically-oriented office space with a teaching facility. Underneath the medical facility will be a 2,000 car parking garage. Lining the garage to the east on Brickell Bay Drive will be a 208-room hotel. Further, both the ground floor and 2nd level of the pedestal will include over 50,000 square feet of high-end retail outlets and restaurant space.
Anticipated completion: Mid 2017

Old Parking Garage Half Demoed For Panorama Tower

Quote:
While most of Miami's bigger projects under construction seem to be on overdrive (walk by Brickell City Centre at night, and they're usually still going at it) developer Tibor Hollo's Panorama Tower is taking its dear sweet time. Hollo announced site work had begun almost exactly a year ago. In that time, half of the old parking garage that formerly occupied the site has been demolished, and that appears to be it from a photo a reader sent in. Why the slow pace is anyone's guess. The gang's going to have to pick up the pace a little to make it to the tower's full 830 foot height.

Garage is demolished and all that is left is to demolish the elevator shaft. Hopefully ground breaking will be occurring shortly!

Ahh, an observation deck in the works. If open to the public, that huge clunky base can be forgiven.

This building will be awesome, and for hopefully a short time Miami's tallest.
