15 Hudson Yards Update: New Glass on the Outside, New Listings Inside

15 Hudson Yards Update: New Glass on the Outside, New Listings Inside

Quote:
The New York real estate community has been eagerly watching 15 Hudson Yards since the construction of this super-sleek 910-foot-tall building designed
by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with the Rockwell Group began last spring. Now roughly
halfway up, the glass and metal curtain wall is now being installed along
the uniquely shaped condominium tower.

Dissenting opinion: I kind of hate this building now..

..or maybe I'm just sorely disappointed they removed the bowing in the middle. It just seems like both an unremarkable and unimportant component of the entire project now, and a bit of an insult to the marvel of a structure being engineered at its base. Also, if I see one more blue glass building I swear I'm going to snap. Manhattan West's "The Eugene" is already possibly one of my least favorite residential towers to go up in NYC in years because it's so painfully boring.

But I will withhold a final opinion until the upper parts that curve get clad.

Damn this thing has some crazy trippy facade on the bottom half. I wish they kept it all the way through, or at least more so than where it stops. I don't think it really goes well with the rest of the glass they are using or the awkward massing.

Crown Vic's were unapologetic shit boxes back in the early 90's when the modern Panther platform debuted.

They were even worse when Ford finally gave it, and it's equally awful, deformed, oxygen-deprived brother, the Mercury Grand Marquis, they mercy killing it so badly needed.

Hudson Yards is in talks to host New York Fashion Week

By Lisa Fickenscher
September 12, 2017

Quote:
Hudson Yards developer Kenneth Himmel is lobbying for his luxury shopping mecca to be the permanent home of New York Fashion Week.

The chief executive of Related Urban, which has inked deals with Neiman Marcus, Coach, Lululemon, Rolex and others on the far West Side of Manhattan, said, “We think we could make a good case to become the permanent home for the fashion shows. We are having ongoing discussions.”

Himmel, who spoke at the Retail Leaders Circle conference at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York on Tuesday, described the one million square foot complex as a “disruptive” force in Manhattan real estate — one that is aiming to be a fashion destination in the city.

Related has been actively courting IMG, which produces the largest number of NYFW shows, to relocate its 70 plus shows to Hudson Yards, said sources familiar with the talks.

For the past two years, IMG has hosted its shows at Clarkson Square in West SoHo.

The agency just inked a deal with another venue, Spring Studios, in Tribeca, for shows in February featuring designers’ spring lines.

But IMG declined to disclose the terms of its deal with the venue and whether it extends beyond 2019, when Hudson Yards is expected to be completed.

Separately, the Council of Fashion Designers of America has been working with a Hudson Yards non-profit called The Shed, which will host cultural events and will be equipped with four fashion runways.

Related does not control The Shed, which is a privately managed art institution.

“When the Shed was being built we helped connect them with industry fashion experts to design the venue with fashion shows in mind,” said CFDA chief executive Steven Kolb.

Diller Scofidio + Renfro-Designed 15 Hudson Yards Gets Curvy, Hudson Yards

[IMG][/IMG]

Quote:
YIMBY has covered progress across Hudson Yards extensively in recent months, and the neighborhood’s rapid transformation is nothing short of incredible. But the last time we looked at progress at the Diller Scofidio + Renfro-designed Fifteen Hudson Yards, it was back in December of 2016, when it was at its eighth floor. Now, eleven months later, work is approaching the upper floors of the soon-to-be 70-story tower, which is being developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group.

The project is two years out from the start of foundation work back in October of 2015, so considering the relative complications with the adjacent railyard platform, progress has been fairly swift. Besides the residential tower, which will stand 915 feet to its roof, Fifteen Hudson Yards also includes the Culture Shed, which will become the neighborhood’s premiere event space.

As for the tower itself, which will contain 285 condominiums and 106 affordable housing units, work appears to be around the low 50s in terms of current floor-count. With another 20-odd floors to go before topping-out, the building is already making quite an impact on the local skyline, and will imminently surpass the already-completed 10 Hudson Yards. The marketing floor count will be 88.

Perhaps most noticeably, the curves on the upper floors are also beginning to become substantially more prominent. The indentations will continue to increase as the tower continues to rise, resulting in a four leaf-clover-esque envelope as it closes in on the parapet, which will ensure it remains distinguished on the overall skyline even as supertalls rise in the blocks to the north and northeast.

Ismael Leyva Architects is the architect of record, and The Rockwell Group is the design architect. Completion is expected by the end of next year.

The tower has affordable housing?

Fuck, I'm tired of working to afford my market rate mediocrity in Bedstuy. Housing policy in this city is a joke.
