An Inquirer map from May 12, 1968 - the year that SEPTA began operating the city's transit infrastructure - shows proposed improvements and expansion plans. Many of these improvements actually got done.

The extension of what is currently the Stony Creek Branch to East Norrington would actually still be useful today. The use of the ex-PRR Fort Washington Branch to Glenside is equally interesting. People have proposed for the Chestnut Hill West to be integrated into the Broad Street Line, which could have translated into BSL service to Glenside. When it comes to the Delaware County Extension of the El, an extension to Havertown (or at least Llanerch) would also be relevant today.
It's a shame that the Warminster Line never had service extended to New Hope, however. Equally shameful is that service was scaled back from Newtown to Fox Chase, service was lost to Bethlehem and Allentown, and nobody thought to extend service at least as far as Pottstown.
