Source: United Airlines Preparing for .7 Mile Flight to New 609 Main Tower Downtown

Quote:
NO CONFIRMATION YET — but a source tells Swamplot that United Airlines is about to announce an upcoming flight to the new tower rising at 609 Main St. Employees were purportedly briefed this morning on plans to move into Hines’s 41-plus-7-more-story skyscraper going up on the former site of the 1931 Texas Tower. The source says that United’s operations at 1600 Smith and 600 Jefferson streets (formerly known as Continenal Center I and II, in the days before the 2010 merger of the 2 air giants) will be consolidated into the new space.

United employees may get a little lift from the underfloor air system incorporated into the tower’s design. The Chicago-based company should also feel at home moving in with fellow northern exports Kirkland & Ellis; the law firm announced its tenancy in the building back in December.

UTMB set to open new hospital in Galveston

Quote:
The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is set to open its new Jennie Sealy Hospital following a nearly four-year construction period of the 765,000-square-foot hospital.

The health system, which is the largest employer on the island, celebrated the completion of the project with a dedication ceremony Feb. 26 with U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and University of Texas Chancellor William McRaven. It will begin accepting patients in April.

I really wish 1111 Travis were 10-15 floors higher, with 1-2 more setbacks. It's a really nice design that would have complimented the other cylindrical-ish glass towers in the downtown cluster.

Agreed. Being in the core of Downtown, it was an ideal site for something tall.

Inside The James luxury apartments near the River Oaks District

Quote:
StreetLights Residential has unveiled its first luxury apartment project in Houston.

The Dallas-based multifamily developer and Stonelake Capital Partners gave the Houston Business Journal a sneak peek inside The James, located at Westheimer Road and Mid Lane Street, between the River Oaks District and Highland Village.

The James is an eight-story midrise that features 344 high-end units averaging 850 square feet. Rents are about $2.60 per square foot, or $2,210 per month for an average unit. The complex is currently 24 percent leased and 14 percent occupied. Click through the slideshow to see a sneak peek of the complex.

The James is the first of three new luxury apartments that StreetLights Residential is under construction on in Houston.

The Ivy, a 20-story, 297-unit apartment tower on 2 acres next to The James. The units average about 1,000 square feet with gas ranges. The James will have similar amenities to The James, but will have a rooftop pool with a view of downtown Houston.

Took a run to the site this morning. D.E. Harvey removed their poster board but paperwork was still around.

Houston Maritime Museum plans new site at the port

Quote:
The Houston Maritime Museum has big plans for a new building at the Port of Houston. The museum is in the planning and fundraising process but hopes to break ground by the end of the year, moving from Houston's Museum District to port-side property. It will be situated next to the Sam Houston boat that offers public tours of the port, allowing visitors to get out on the water and learn about Houston's port and maritime history at the museum.

That looks amazing! Does anyone have a link or photo of the Aurora? Assuming that it is still in the pipeline.

Not sure how things are going in terms of # of sales, but a few weeks ago I talked to a rep for the project and was told it's still on.

That looks really good for an affordable housing complex. Hell, it looks better than 60% of the market rate housing complexes we get here in LA!
