Yes, I walked past there yesterday- they still seem to be doing some very careful digging- they really arent trucking a lot of material out- if any. They seem to be moving dirt around the site as they focus on different areas. Not sure what they are doing exactly however.

Not anything we don't already know, but little tidbit about this in Center City District's June 30th news update:

Hotel Tower Construction Underway

Quote:
Construction has begun on Chestlen Development’s 51-story tower that will house a 295-room W Philadelphia and 460-room Element Philadelphia at 1441 Chestnut Street, according to a June 17 press release from Starwood Hotels & Resorts, franchiser of the hotels.

The project will include an outdoor pool, bar and terrace, meeting and banquet facilities, food and beverage outlets, and retail space along Chestnut Street. The hotels are expected to open in early 2018.

The excavation looks like it is continuing to be a real challenge. There are a lot of remnants in that lot, but this building is a real beauty! Love it.

I read a couple articles and checked L&I but can't see if the parking garage is under or overground. Underground is preferred but that means we'll have to wait even longer before this thing starts to rise.

I saw that sign last time I went by- all parties want credit for their financial contribution to this. I'm not sure what PIDC has to do with this project however. Perhaps they are providing some low interest loan.

The TIF and RACP money also come through PIDC.

PIDC is the conduit, though not the original source, for most subsidies going into local projects.

This site has looked like one step forward and two steps back for a month. Can anyone shed some light on what's going on with the site prep?

anyone know who designed this building? The old designs were done by cope linder but I went to their site and saw nothing about this iteration of the project.

I think Lenfest came up with the basic design.

Architect is still Cope Linder but Blenfest came up with the idea for the design.
