Legends Entertainment District

Not sure if everybody wants a new thread dedicated to this or not or if this is more appropriate to be stuffed in the Phoenix Development New Thread.

A buddy of mind mentioned "new lights" coming to downtown and I figured he was talking about the CityScape lights but this seems completey separate from that.

Here is a link to the initial article I saw on this:

Lots of bling coming to downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Phoenix Suns have formed a partnership to create an atmosphere in downtown Phoenix mindful of New York City's Times Square and Las Vegas. The Legends Entertainment District will offer nearly 50,000 square feet of unique marketing opportunities with a blend of digital signage and super-graphic static billboards, including the largest signage available anywhere in the Phoenix metropolitan area.......

Here are other links I've seen as well:

this doesn't real need its own thread, its just new signs. We already discussed it in the general PHX thread anyhow.

I'm sure as more news comes from it later, and the project progresses, it will be able to use it's own thread. I plan to take plenty of pictures throughout the process of construction.

Why the negativity? Why does it make a big difference to you if it has it's own thread or not? If you don't like it, you can just choose not to click on it.

ljbuild, I totally understand what you are saying, however, when you think about what these lights, mixed in with CityScape's contribution of their own soon (of which we aren't sure of the impact), at least it will be SOMETHING.

I can see the wanting to be negative, trust me, as a AZ native I understand. But when you think about what USED to be there, these things, albeit maybe small things, are building blocks to better things to come.

It may not seem like it, but downtown Phoenix has actually come a long way in the past 10 years alone.

Oh God, it seems like it has to me. I think you'd have to be living under a rock to not see the progress over the past 10 years. when I was in high school my friends and I used to go downtown to explore and it was pretty sketchy.... and that was in 2000/2001.

I'm not being negative, I was being totally polite. Its not an actual construction project with buildings, it includes no housing, retail, hotel rooms or office of any kind. Its just some signs, its a good idea and I'm glad its happening, but do we need specific threads for new signs?

Its a lot easier to keep track of things on the forum if their all in their right place and easily organized, this topic having its own thread just seems unnecessarily.

Kingofleos himself said in the first post he wasn't sure if this was worthy of its own thread and sought everyone's opinion, I was just adding mine.

I agree, how will more signs and lights make the place any better? Unless they brought casinos then it would be poppin haha. Also that strip of Jefferson needs to be more pedestrian friendly with more trees and street parking and street shops. The idea also only appeals to locals in Phoenix not visitors.

^What the hell was that? 5 of those blocks are parking garages and about 7 of them are empty lots...at least a rough count of the rotating half square mile they are showing in that animation. How fucking "entertaining".

I am thinking it is because those structures have room for signage. I can't believe anyone would want big LED signs covering the front facades of the Luhrs tower or other windowed buildings. They are putting signs where they can in the area.

What do they mean by static sign? I understand the LED signs. Also, what are all the blue numbered spots? The key does not explain them.

Static is the opposite of dynamic. Static is a fancy way of saying billboard.

Im not down with this project. Its going to ruin my dark peace and quiet at night and cause so much light pollution i will no longer have a view. I just decided this.

Will the LEDs be facing you? That would be a pain if so. Or is there a chance another building would block the LED signs?

So static sounds so much better than billboard? WOW, nice spin on those!

I suppose there is a little nimby'ism going on, but what do you expect? they want to build some goofy flashy light district in my backyard. I like my awesome view at night.
